Awesome track. Still blows a lot of current stuff out of the water. Almost 40 years later.

Fucking incredible.

Hmm; is he perhaps mistaken? It sounds like he's talking about the Test One Festival, at which both BoC and Strictly Kev played DJ sets, but that which took place 25 April 1998. The general election reference though would put the date at 1 May 1997. If Boards of Canada played any show on that date, I'm not aware of it, though it's not implausible as they played two other festivals that summer (Phoenix on 20 July and Sunflower on 26 July).

If you could bother him for a follow-up I'd be curious to know more about the details of that show.

I'll ask him, seems a decent guy. The only thing he won't do is scan a copy of the letter Marcus sent him with the cd as it's personal.

Nice, I wonder if it matches the Twoism handwriting (or maybe that was Mike).

He says it was definately the Test One festival, and must have got his dates mixed up.

Thanks for the follow-up, I wasn't aware that Mira Calix had a part in curating Test One.

This is a pretty neat story :boc:

I asked them about the sample right at the end of Everything you Do is a Balloon (the little guitar squiggle on the fade out) and said that it was a John Abercrombie track (Timeless) and they were stunned because they'd sampled it from a porno soundtrack and never knew what it was. I had a couple of copies so I said I'd send them one when I got home.

I did so and didn't think much more of it but then a package arrived with this CD in it and a typed note from Marcus. He thanked me for the record and was just so chuffed that I'd solved what the track was - it's a killer 9 minute song on the ECM label. On the CD it says 'very limited edition' and in the letter he says there are only 5 copies. So that's how I came to own this and it's one of my most prized pieces, I hoped they'd feature it in the RC piece but they didn't print that picture (I sent them loads) so I uploaded it for anyone who was interested to see.

Awesome! I love that guitar squiggle on one of their most classic tracks.

& clouddead too - one of their best moments!

i'm guessing that's version 2 of olson on there, like the release, but it doesn't specify... all well, like we'll ever know. just pointing it out.

Edited by impotentwhitecapitalist

yeah whatever, i guess version 2 is actually the official version then. not that it matters as i alluded to at the end of my post. just trying to find topic of discussion where one's done, or mystery where there is none, i suppose. the internet

It may be original but it still looks like it's a fanmade fake, even knowing it isn't

Don't forget it is over 13 years old and was probably made at the last minute by one the boys and wasn't for general release- So it's hardly gonna set the world alight production and design-wise.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

depending on the quality of the CD-R that they used, the disc may not even be playable now.

many CD-R discs i had from around that period turned completely unreadable about 5 years ago, had to throw them out

I can guarantee you this is real. Food don't do fake... Keep in mind he was asked to do the "sometime in the future" cd mix...

what makes you think DJ Food can't get faked? anyone can get faked if it's done well enough.

Even if it is real, as so many in here think it is - I guess my knee jerk reaction to it being fake is because it looks like some fanboy-made thing from Kinkos, right down to the inside sleeve image being a "kaleidoscope" photoshop of...big surprise...a PR photo of the band. How am I the only one who finds all this a little too obvious? And why is it not a possibility that even DJ Food could've been "had" by someone claiming to be who they were not?

lol no that was my first impression too, including the immediate thought 'someone hoaxed DJ food' right after i saw the guy say 'food dont do fakes' it's not cynicism, it's realism

lol I like how certain mystical accounts start posting "facts" in here. get the f*** back into your bunker until you come back with some valid release and stop wasting our time with some home-printed coverartwork

That was totally uncalled for, considering someone took the trouble to share this with the rest of the community. You don't know what you're talking about, so you really shouldn't be talking like you know for sure this is a fake. If this is a waste of your time, then don't bother reading the thread, or the forum for that matter.

Keep your vitriolic comments to yourself.

I'll add to the fact that despite popular belief, BoC do not have professional offset printing presses and CD pressing machines to add that air of authenticity to their personal gifts they give to friends and family, and certainly not in 1998/1999.

BoC Maxima's J Card is laser printed, and the OT cassettes J Cards are handmade as well.

ok so a printing press is officially ruled out as the secret weapon

Yeah. But don't fuck with the 'laser' printer.
