The guy is the smartest guy that ever lived bro, he helped programmed software that runs the LHC.

I dunno, the other day I saw Brian Cox (who really did help out at CERN) performing a song with Tim Minchin, after explaining to everyone there what the Higgs boson is. It'd be pretty hard to beat that...

What is the Higgs boson

Seriously, is there something Mr. James can´t do?

Bake better cakes than my mum. She's a genuis and should be known across the globe. A bit like Richard she don't care much for the limelight so quietly gets on with it, giving her fine baking to her little fanclub. Fact.

What is the Higgs boson

The particulars have escaped me, but the gist is that scientists observed how the universe works at a pretty fundamental level (so-called elementary particles because they apparently can't be broken down any further, although it wouldn't be the first time someone claimed to have found something atomic, so to speak... although an atom is certainly the smallest amount of any given element you can have), and there was some stuff that was unaccounted for, and someone (actually, several groups of people independently) worked out some equations that did account for everything, based on the assumption that something existed which hasn't yet been found. As two of these guys were called Higgs and Bose, this hypothetical not-yet-found thing got named after them. Last Tuesday, CERN used the LHC (Atlas and CMS in particular) to rule out some places where this Higgs boson definitely isn't, and it looks like they've found where it probably is. (By "places," I mean places on a graph, not physical places.) They're going to do more experiments next year to determine a bit more conclusively whether they've actually found it.

Basically, it looks like on the 13th December 2011, we finally proved an idea some people had in 1964, about how the universe fundamentally works. I feel kind of honoured that I happened to be in a theatre that night, watching Brian Cox explain all this stuff, have a live chat with some other scientists at CERN (even if all that managed to make it over the Internet was brief snippets of sentinces like "oh-- ah-- e-- oh-- breakfast," but the amount of alcohol they were getting through was a pretty clear indicator of how much they were celebrating an important, historic occasion!) and then go on to play the piano for Tim Minchin's Christmas song. All in all, it was a pretty good day.

Oh, and the origin of this article (online) was originally on Aphex Start (run by Chris Miller) in 1998, then re-posted on aphextwin.nu (hence the small type and aphex logo background).

actually there was an interview I read ages ago, that Rich played live this program he made that would automatically generate beats and melodies and the crowd tried dancing to it

does anyone have an mp3 or anything of it?

i think he is full of shit

rdj album sounds anything but digital

all of those synths sound analog and the drums sound like they are from an mpc

he might have used a mac to drive them but i doubt he did that album all inside the box

it sounds way to un digital

I agree with you, God in Flesh AKA Afx would never use computer software to make music, his soul too pure.
