  1. 1. Who was the greatest rapper?

Tupac was a far more three dimensional character then Biggie. Tupac was more akin to an activist in many aspects. Biggie was just sort of a blunted out fat MC.

As far as Pac and Biggie go. I liked Biggie's flow much better, but I liked Tupac's character and antics better. My wife thinks P Diddy killed them both... but I never could tell if she was serious or not!

Kool keith may be IDM but he is not very versatile on the mic imo. his "choruses" (i.e. repeating the same line 4 times) are aggravating as hell. fantastic flow though.

For sure. He's got his own thing going. Sometimes it's dumb as hell and I do tire of it easily, but when I'm in the mood for it, nothing else will do.

I'll admit im way more into the backpack raps, but Minneapolis is kinda a mecca of backpack raps, being home to Rhymesayers Records, the Doomtree collective, Hieruspecs etc... I kinda lean more towards the more forward-thinking backpack rappers, it's the style of hip-hop I grew up around.

Guest nene multiple assgasms

of the two, biggie is more to my taste. he seems to be from the same multisyllabic school as big daddy kane and kool g rap that lead to DOOM. tupac's flow always seemed the same with the truncated lines emphasizing the last word.

tupac because one day many years ago my mother borrowed my boombox because she wanted some background music while talking with her friends. it just so happened that i left disc 2 of "death row's greatest hits" inside the boombox. hearing "that's why i fucked your bitch you fat motherfucker" at full blast over and over because she couldn't figure out how to turn on the radio was awesome.

I don't know about ratings, I've listened to Biggie more but recently I came around hard on Tupac. He has a really enjoyable style to listen to, it's less oppressive than Biggie's style, and leaves more room for free thought. Biggie was more 'all out' trying to make huge cinematic experiences for the listener. I don't think Biggie is overrated, and I don't know much about Tupac.

That said, Nas is far superior to Biggie, for me, as a rapper. And I don't think I would include any albums by either Tupac or Biggie in my top 5 or top 10 hip hop albums. That's just me though, and I'm still getting into old hip hop every year. I think the argument about greatest rappers might be between GZA and Nas.

Kool Keith is awesome.

I actually assumed people like biggie & 2pac here. they were both charming as fuck and lyrically excellent. If you think they were too stupid and "hood", I think you haven't really listened to them. I mean, both had a deep but bleak outlook on what they were doing, there was not so much glorifying as an inevitable acceptance of the state of things in the nature of their lyrics - it was their successors that did the glorifying. I think the fact that they were both murdered proves that they were among few who actually crossed the line between art imitating life/life imitating art. Both had some of the best lyrics about suicidal depression:

  Biggie said:
I know my mother wished she got a fucking abortion

She don't even love me like she did when I was younger

Suckin' on her chest just to stop my fuckin' hunger

I wonder if I died, would tears come to her eyes

Forgive me for my disrespect, forgive me for my lies

My baby mother's eight months, her little sister's two

Who's to blame for both of them, (naw nigga, not you)

I swear to God I just want to slit my wrists and end this bullshit

Throw the Magnum to my head, threaten to pull shit

And squeeze, until the bed's completely red

I'm glad I'm dead, a worthless fuckin' buddah head

The stress is building up, I can't

I can't believe suicide's on my fucking mind, I wanna leave

  2pac said:

A place to spend my quiet nights

Time to unwind

So much pressure in this life of mine

I cry at times

I once contemplated suicide

And woulda tried but

when I held that nine all I could see was my mama's eyes

I prefer biggie personally. 2pac was much more poetic, but biggie had the attitude, the NY underground beats, so many clever lines and wordplay and i'm a sucker for that.
