Autechre sampled Kool Keith and, if I'm hearing him correctly, Kool Keith namedropped Autechre in one of his songs:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W__sSidbMHg

0:30 "Jam like Autechre" with Autechre pronnounced AW-TEK-ER

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuRCbRf0YOA&feature=related

2:36 "Jam like Autechre" sample pitched up

This has been debunked several times (that Keith referenced ae). It's jam like a tekker as in a tec-9 as in a machine gun that is notoriously prone to jamming. Lots of other rappers have used this line also

Has this thread broken down into naming your favourite rappers yet?

This is exactly what this thread started as. That is its point. Therefore i don't understand what you are saying.

I actually assumed people like biggie & 2pac here. they were both charming as fuck and lyrically excellent. If you think they were too stupid and "hood", I think you haven't really listened to them. I mean, both had a deep but bleak outlook on what they were doing, there was not so much glorifying as an inevitable acceptance of the state of things in the nature of their lyrics - it was their successors that did the glorifying. I think the fact that they were both murdered proves that they were among few who actually crossed the line between art imitating life/life imitating art. Both had some of the best lyrics about suicidal depression:

  Biggie said:
I know my mother wished she got a fucking abortion

She don't even love me like she did when I was younger

Suckin' on her chest just to stop my fuckin' hunger

I wonder if I died, would tears come to her eyes

Forgive me for my disrespect, forgive me for my lies

My baby mother's eight months, her little sister's two

Who's to blame for both of them, (naw nigga, not you)

I swear to God I just want to slit my wrists and end this bullshit

Throw the Magnum to my head, threaten to pull shit

And squeeze, until the bed's completely red

I'm glad I'm dead, a worthless fuckin' buddah head

The stress is building up, I can't

I can't believe suicide's on my fucking mind, I wanna leave

  2pac said:

A place to spend my quiet nights

Time to unwind

So much pressure in this life of mine

I cry at times

I once contemplated suicide

And woulda tried but

when I held that nine all I could see was my mama's eyes

I prefer biggie personally. 2pac was much more poetic, but biggie had the attitude, the NY underground beats, so many clever lines and wordplay and i'm a sucker for that.

I don't disagree with you. I prefer Biggie and I dislike the cult of mourners that follow them around, especially tupac. That's what I don't like. But I appreciate them both for what they did, even if i don't consider them the best. Which I don't.

Biggie by far. At least that fat fuck actually did half the shit he rapped about. As for the east-west? Tubac was born in NYC.

Anyways - as others have said, there's a whole bunch better.

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

Taken out of the mainstream commercial rap/pop context, 2pac's "poetry" here would be laughed out of a high school club reading. If it's heartfelt, that's cool, but it's pretty bad lyrically. Biggie's is only slightly better.

All of this shit is so fucking overrated.

If these motherfuckers didn't die in the most financially lucrative way possible, they'd be placed only slightly above total hacks like puffy.
