you won't need to find a farm. look for wet, grassy, muddy, dank areas. like in a forest, or Mesh Gear Fox's Y-fronts.

Psylocibes cubensis, the magic mushroom that lives in my area, only grows on cow manure, horse manure, and manure enriched soil. I heard that from reading field guides.

Although that is a cliched and partly wrong statement, that they only grow in cow dung, it's a good rule to follow when you're searching

They also grow in damp vegetative areas with rich soil

But if you're in an area with cows it tends to have that quality anyway because of the dung, even if they're not growing DIRECTLY out of the shit.

So go to some cow fields.

It also helps if the fields are old, meaning not recently (within 10 years of so) cultivated.

Also the ground should not be moist to the degree of being swamp like.

Fields where any kind of animal has been grazing and thus shitting, will bolster the chances of there being shrooms on the field.

There's one thing I've always wondered though, do the animals eat these shrooms? and if so, do they get any of the effects?

Do you still believe this? i think this logic is very backwards. Effects like visual acuity come from activating receptors that are specifically serotonin receptors, the psilocybin would have had no effect without serotonin system already existing. Not to mention there are plenty of species that wouldnt have ever come into contact with these mushrooms that have a serotonin system, lobsters etc. I can see some plausibility in arguments about how it led to language due to synesthesia though.
