I know it was part of the charm that you could actually die and it was almost like a Sierra trademark but it sucked so much ass gameplay-wise. I especially remember being frustrated by Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist because the game would literally just stop and would force you to reload your last save game if you opened the door to outhouse on the far right on this screenshot.

Why?

You would also drown in quicksand (as far as I remember) if you walked too far to the right. I don't see the fun in that.

I loved me some Space Quest though.
