i made scotch eggs from scratch yesterday for brunch. they were amazing but i was really trying for a runny yolk and didn't quite pull it off.

edit: recipe to make 3 scotch eggs...

4 large top quality butchers sausages (i had pork and caramelised onion) out of skins and into blender with 2 teaspoons mustard, salt and pepper.

3 eggs into cold water and bring to boil, when boiling remove from heat completely and stand for 3 minutes, then into iced water with ice to stop them cooking...

spread about 10cm square and 1 cm thick of sausage mix onto clingfilm, de-shell the egg and place in the centre and use the cling film to carefully wrap the egg in sausage...

roll in flour, then egg, then bread crumbs and deep fry at 190 degrees C for 2 minutes til golden brown and crispy...

then into preheated oven at about 180 or gas mark 5 for 8-10 minutes (think i left it nearer 10 mins so my yolk was soft but not runny).

quite alot of prep/hassle but so worth it for the result.

That's gorgeous.

cheers doods. it was a 10/10 brekkie!

Yesterday's breakfast was epic.

If you haven't been to an Original Pancake House, stop reading this and find one.

I got 2 basted eggs with sausage patties and it naturally came with a side of 3 buttermilk pancakes. My wife gave me 2 of her 4 pancakes. My pancake total was 5.

We drove 30 miles for breakfast. It was totally worth it.

I don't take pictures of my food. For some reason, I feel like its like taking pictures of my poop.

I went out for my g.f.'s birthday brunch yesterday and got the most delicious soul-food artery-clogger, now I shall not eat for a week. It looks so gross and tasted so good:

"Maggie's Mess" @ Larkin's in L.A.; someone else's pic here: http://www.foodspott...7-maggie-s-mess

Includes: extraordinarily buttery biscuit, scrambled eggs, delicious bits of juicy fried chicken, bacon, peppers, onions, and Louisiana hot links, and gravy. edit: and also potatoes.

Holy shit, my heart. Fortunately this place isn't close enough to go every week.

The staff is also ridiculously friendly.

You been watching Heston?

yeah it was his recipe.

Cool, i was wondering how it would turn out, if a normal person attempted it. I would say that you need to make your sausage filling a bit thicker, just to guard the egg. Or you didn't make them runny enough in the first place. I don't dig his turn off the heat method. Just boil 'em as you're used to, as you're probably more likely to succeed that way (maybe).

It's pretty cool that you tried though, you're my watmm hero for the day. ;-] haH!

That looks fantastic.

unfortunately this wasn't the actual fried-egg sandwich i had for breakfast, but the closest picture i could find in that it was a double fried-egg sandwich in toasted bread. i would've added bacon but the stuff i had in the fridge was three weeks out of date...

today i have just had a shit load of tea. tea's fucking awesome.

see i've had great results with his method on boiled eggs - nice runny yolk every time.

i think i went wrong with leaving them in the oven too long cos he said 8-10 minutes and i left them nearer 10... and then they were sitting for another minute (still cooking with residual heat) while i cut my daughters one into little pieces to cool down cos she was just about eating her hand. it took way longer than expected to make them. tasty regardless!

i'll nail it next time.

cheers!
