The beginning of Punk Weight is absolutely amazing. The Indian pop sample is incredible. Rest of the song is good, too, but the beginning takes the cake.

This whole album is great. There's not a single song I don't like. Can't wait to actually get it.

A friend of mine tried to show me Death Grips a little while ago but I just wasn't into it for some reason. Glad I found this thread because holy shit was I ever wrong! Checked out more of their less recent stuff too. Definitely gonna pick up this album (or maybe start with others) and try to see them at NXNE this summer.

I'd start with Ex-Military because it's free.

Just finished my first listen of The Money Store. Really impressed that they're able to vary a bit from the sound in Exmilitary. It sounds much more mature and refined. It's also really hypnotic with the bass synths. Also, I don't even consider it a hip hop record, much more like a glitch (or even trance) record. Favorite track is most likely Blackjack but that's probably because I'm most familiar with that one at the moment.

this album is fucking mental.

Just bought the CD today, this is the first time in a while I've listened to an album on repeat. Absolutely fucking nuts, even more excited now to see them in May. Gotta say though I kinda agree with jefferoo though about the mastering on the CD, something certainly seems missing.

same on the repeat, i listened to it three times in the row just kinda trying to make sense of the damn thing.

Listened to it pretty much nonstop since i got it, and there isn't much sense to be made, its just really fucking mental and amazing. Hacker has been stuck in my head on loop since saturday.

Don't forget reverb boxers

it's an interesting exercise in 'let's just throw everything at the wall and see what sticks' maximalism.

The tracks on the new album are all incredible. The only problem is... I think they mastered the CD poorly.

The sound is way to flat and erring on high end, over low end. Not enough bass, by far. It has a tinny sound.

It is there in the recording, just not in the mixing/mastering.

I agree with this, I can barely stand listening to this album because there's nothing on the low-end. Anyone here have this on vinyl? Is the mastering on that any better?

I ruined it a bit by listening to the samples too much before I got the album. It's missing some of the rawness of Ex-Military, but the electronics are much better. Some of the samples are insane.

Death Grips reminds me of Zeigenbock Kopf a bit, a Tigerbeat6 band from the early 2000s.

I've decided that Ex-Military is better. The Money Store is more consistent: all of its songs are damn good. But the best songs from the first release are better than the best from the new one.

The Money Store is still an ace album, though.

Or maybe I'm wrong. It's growing on me some more. Damn, this band is amazing.

Got my hands on a vinyl rip. It's not.

Ouch. Wtf.

If you compare the sound of the free cuts off the website to the same tracks on the cd, it's night and day. The free ones sound much more massive. This group is not one who's bass should be messed with.

Jesus, that interview was fucking interesting. Would've really liked to hear what the lead singer had so say about Death Grips. Thought it interesting how they talked about how Death Grips was like the internet, you have some of the most intellectual things paired up against some of the dumbest, most primal things

This is getting too overrated. I think it's just nice. 7.5/10

again, i don't really hate skrillex as much as i hate the people that think that sort of music has any sort of integrity. i try to be open minded, and a lot of the time i employ a "well, each to his/her own" attitude towards personal preferences such as music taste and who knows, maybe it is original in its own way, sorta like a drawing by an autistic kid.

These guys have some fight in them. Thank god, so much pussified retromania music these days. This got my blood pumping, they sound like they actually mean it.
