I do not have Facebook.

Fair enough, if it's still there for people who actually have an account, I guess it's still there.

still doesn't mean anything, considering that the guy that runs the Boards of Canada Facebook page has been dropping hints that a new album is 'imminent' since 2009

no, this time is different.. they have confirmed a new album is on the way!

Why would warp and BOC let someone just run their facebook page like that if they are not officially associated?

The same reason that twoism.org and watmm.com allows the same person to have administrator status and is trusted by the respective forums' owners.

Well, I guess I just see Facebook as a more official space. And a more public one. I mean Warp was always a bit unusual, like their artists, but if they ever thought about brand or public appearance it is quite a risk to let someone outside run the page saying 'yes' to posts about rumors etc. Well, whatever, I hope there is a new album. :)

Seriously, why would you view Facebook as 'a more official space'?

Facebook has become the best marketing tool ever for companies, do you know why?

Plausible deniability.

Well I don't know that much about it, but their page has the /boardsofcanada url and companies are allowed to take over pages they have a right to if they want to. In other words if there is a FB page for something 'big' and it even names itself official, and it's not taken down, and has hundreds of thousands of likes, it /appears/ from the outside to be an official source. Not that there isn't ever impostors or anything, but you'd think it would be reliable. But when I'm thinking about it now I see your point, it was just my gut reaction ever since i first found the page, and I didn't think more about it since.

are you blind?

No it isn't different at all.

Boards of Canada do not run the Facebook page, or indeed anything related to their supposed online presence. It seems very likely that MDG actually maintains the online stuff.

So by proxy, it is not different...since MDG has been saying that an album is incoming since 2009.

I think you're just proving his point, duder

There is so much fucking stupid in this thread and any even vaguely related thread that I can't even tell who's trolling/facetious and who's a naive nutless fanboi anymore.

I have seen countless 'announcements' by tech companies on Facebook, which have been reported by various news outlets as being official word. The latest of which was the whole Android Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy S II. Sure enough, the 'announcement' that was made on Facebook (on their official Facebook page) was rescinded a few days later. This was likely done just so they could gauge interest, or some other bullshit marketing metric figured out by pencil pushers.

In any case, Facebook for whatever fucked-up reason, has become an official means for announcements for many people.

There are, of course, some artists/labels that do make proper announcements through Facebook, but it doesn't hurt anyone to be looking at these rumours with reason and common sense.

More fun than reading about any new news or confirmations of a BoC album is reading all the anger generated because some people are actually happy or excited.

What's an MDG?

I have gathered evidence, I employed a private investigator (our very own Coalbucket PI) and he managed to grab this photographic evidence

It's the same species of anger as the one that you get when your friend's 17-year-old sister says she knows for sure that the fucktard she's dating is "the one". You know it probably won't end well and it just hurts to watch.

What a bullshit thread. The existing one in the BoC subforum isn't enough until we get official news? Jesus fucking christ.

Welcome to the wacky world of BoC fanhood.
