massive chicago watmm meet-up???

also, are tickets already on sale for the chicago show?

yep, on the chicago metro website. i think they end up being about 31 dollars after the usual service charges as such. it may be about 2 less if you do the print out option on the tickets instead of mail though.

I'm just gonna pick mine up @ Will Call. There's a bullshit "Convenience Fee" $7 and some change plus the $24 for the ticket. See-ya there

how will that work with the lights and whatnot? I just mean, a big part of the visual effect was based on the room being pitch black other than the LED's right?

A doozy of a problem...

In fairness, I think the line up is decent enough.

I'm pretty confident he'll make a stop at Asheville for Moogfest, and for this reason among others I hope this year will be better than last year. I would love to see his show outdoors but I think they've done away with all outdoor venues this time.

got my ticket for NY! Anyone else going?

I really hope I'm the only one here, but I saw Squarepusher last week at Dour festival, and I was so, so disappointed. Saw him 3 or 4 times now, and this was by far the most boring show I've seen. He seemed to be in my category of: "musically I'm not interesting enough anymore so I'll just focus on all the visuals". I also think, me being a conservative fool, he gave many the finger by playing ZERO ´old´ songs on a FESTIVAL. Me and my friends were kind of disappointed by the new album, and to hear every new dubstep-like-tempo song of the new album with the same visuals over and over again was really tiresome. Also, he had a bassguitar standing in the spotlight in the leftcorner for more than 55 minutes, NOT doing ANYTHING with it. When the last 10 minutes started, he picked up the bass and did the most Spinal Tap solo ever, just going Merzbow on that bass with 100% effects over it, it was absolute shite (I've seen him bash out amazing solo's live, so I know he can, but this was just bad).

The music of the new album is not bad, but it's not convincing, especially not live. And by not playing ány old song he really seems to be taking a new direction and/or targeting a larger crowd maybe? The dubstep sounds also points in that direction I think. Does anyone else here agrees with this?

word. no real interest in going to chicago show as of yet. have a friend or two (2) there so may be worth it to visit them; but by no means is someting not lacking

I figure I'll take a stab at some of these comments. Personally, I really like the new album for what it is, and can definitely see a lot of the complaints that people have about it. As he himself has stated, it seems to be a creation with neither the music nor the visuals necessarily separated from each other. Wouldn't want him to persist in making music in the style for very long, or past this album really. But I can definitely see your issues with it growing tiresome and can agree with you somewhat.

I'm not sure why you would have thought that he would have played any of his older material, especially since all other shows on this tour have been strictly limited to ufabulum songs. That doesn't mean that I don't agree with you though; it's kind of sad whenever his constant need for reinvention and his subjective idea of "moving forward" with his music means totally abandoning some of the gems that made him popular in the first place. Nonetheless, since he is always itching to change how he thinks about his live shows and attitude towards his musical past, I don't anticipate that future live shows and material will be much in the same vein as the ufabuum material/shows (or at least I hope not).

One point where I absolutely agree with you is with the bass wankery stuff. Listening to someone screech about with heavily effected, minimally composed basslines is pretty boring and serves little purpose. Why bother with slamming seemingly random bass notes over walls of distortion oustide of any songs writing context, for a comparably short period of time, after a long intentioned set of playing through fully fleshed out songs? Makes no sense to me.

Love the album and I love the live vibe of the NY and San Fran sets even if he pretty much just plays the album straight. What can I say.. i'm majorly biased

Sure I'd love another 2 hour Ultravisitor set too....Squarepusher at his absolute best - or of course his warp20 set of unreleased stuff............but that's not how squarepusher does it unfortunately.

I really dig his bass wankery too but having just one slice of it at the end of the current set does seem a bit crappy

The buffer overrive effect in his live shows always drove me insane, I couldn't imagine paying to see that.

I have 5 tickets to the show in Brussels that I'm not able to attend anymore. Willing to sell them cheap for anyone who is interested!

Just got tickets for the Berlin show this Sunday! First show i've ever seen from any of the 'big 3'.. and im quite excited

Sadly I have to agree with Herr Jan on this one guys. Saw him in San Francisco back in August and was sorely disappointed. I haven't been in the forums in years so wasn't privy to how the tour was progressing prior to seeing him. I knew about the helmet and the light screens, but didn't have ANY idea that was all we were going to get. My brother flew up from Southern CA just for the show and we were pretty bummed. There was a collective intake of breath in the room when he strapped the bass on, but he then proceeded to just feedback loop the shit out of some unintelligible sounds. Last time we had seen him was about 10 years ago in Los Angeles and that was an amazing show!
