A few albums recently listened.

Continuing my RDJ revisiting safari

Surfing on Sine Waves - it's weird how much more I like the two added in rerelease tracks than the bulk of the original material. I mean, most of it's pretty aight but clearly early work to my ears, & Portheath Harbour is like dayyyyum gurl. Almost makes me believe he actually did pick stuff at random.

I Care Because You Do - I dunno, I think this is the Aphex album people tend to ignore & I can kinda see why. It's at an awkward spot between the early dreamy wandering analogue songs & his tight mid90s pop numbers. And it's the only Aphex album that feels like it has filler material to me (dude has lotsa stuff that's take it or leave it for me, but generally the stuff on the main Aphex Twin albums is all gold). The first track's awesome, Wet Tip Hen Ax is awesome, several others are solid but feel like they drag on too long. I do like what he did with strings, though. Feels very un-techno.

people tend to ignore I Care Because You Do? I beg to differ ,it's hailed among RDJ's best albums

^Well, I don't really keep up with the discussion but my impression was people look at both SAW albums as these mystical things, & DrukQs as this standalone super-complex thing that you either hate it or think it's brilliant, & RDJ Album seems to be the one casual listeners go for because it's 30 minutes long, really catchy, & full of vocal samples (in the USA edition). I don't see people talking about ICBYD as an album as much (just individual tracks off it).

I listened to Slayers Seasons in the Abyss a few days ago. Still a stone cold classic.

I've listened to it too. IMO 7/10.

Been listening to this a lot lately. One of the best ambient albums I've heard in a long time.

josephine foster - blood rushing - 9/10, can't stop listening to it since i grabbed it yesterday.

deerhoof - breakup song - 8/10

animal collective - centipede hz 7.5/10 so far, need more spins as it's pretty hard to penetrate at times.

swans - the seer 5/10 - not really my cup of tea... but i like post-punk, industrial, experimental rock, art rock, etc. -... but this... sorry!

Ooooh my goodness, what is icepop? Is it a fruity lolly? with many flavours?

Still need to listen to Royksopp's Senior. I've heard great things.

Nujabes - Metaphorical Music: 6/10: This is some fantastic, smooth, psychedelic-sounding Hip-Hop. Some of the tracks are real dullards though.

Family Order - Family Order: 10/10: I'm sure I've raved about this album in this thread already, but it's amazing. Sort of a jazz-math-rock band heavy on the organ. The album is free, go download it.

Made In Mexico - Guerillaton - 7/10: Pretty solid female-fronted noisy spanish inspired rock. I've always enjoyed their minimalist approach to guitar in "Yes We Can".

Deerhoof - Apple O': 7/10: Good album

The Alps - III: Nice psychedelic rocky something-rather with one shitty saxophone drone track. 7/10

Boards of Canada - Campfire Headphase: 10/10: Would usually give this one a 9/10, but I finally have warmed up to "Tears from the compound eye".

The Magnetic Fields - Get Lost: Still can't rate it, but I think I love it. His voice goes with those floaty synths so well.

Gang of Four - Entertainment!: Great album. 7ish/10

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Drippers E.P.: Interesting mix of "Eating Us" era psychedelia, and some of Tobacco's older style of music (Guitar, Proto-vocoder). Alright/10

Yellow Swans - Deterioration: I was pretty stoned/drunk when I listened to this, so 10/10. Great drone. Reminds me of Merzbow's Merzzow except better.
