Going to be all over this. Liumin and Altering Illusions were both fantastic, so the idea of the two coming together somewhat in one release really intrigues.

Also, everyone completely overlooked this but it was pretty much like a new Echospace record:

Been playing that constantly and it's absolute gold!

According to a press release, these same recordings were the "sonic structure" of Liumin, their 2010 double-disc package on Modern Love, which explains the inclusion of the "BCN Dub (Original Mix)."

So is this something like Liumin Reduced?

i hope not. there'll be nothing left. is there any info about the movie? is it good? what's it about?

more liumin reduced would definitely interest me, its my fav of the 2 discs by far.

not all that surprised that mr.modell would venture to the visual realm, a lot of the album art he's responsible for is beautiful

I bet it's has blurry and timelapsed footage. The movie will be out after the album so who knows. Doubt it's about anything.

If anyone from the DeepChord camp is reading this, please stop pumping the ratings of all your releases on discogs.

I'm talking about the art of having minions rate every version/format of a particular release 5/5, like for example here:

http://www.discogs.c...er/stats/256254

I know it's just Discogs ratings, so effing what, etc. But it just not classy, and I'd prefer to think of you as classy people.

Thanks,

Bob

I never fail to be bewildered by the things I read about these guys business strategy, but it makes sense when you realize they put the same basic channel ripoffs out over and over

They sound nothing like BC.

lol

I actually mean Chain Reaction generally, but yeah, i think its obviously that they are capitalizing on that sound with very little to offer in terms of uniqueness

Autechre Rule - Queen are Shite

To me it sounds like they're doing their own thing, though the influence is there. I haven't heard every single Chain Reaction release, but it seems like their music has much more vibe, melody and swing than anything on the label, especially the Basic Channel stuff. Not that those things make the music better, I just think it differentiates them enough.

Apples and oranges guys.

I listen to a whole lot of Modell & Co. and a whole lot of BC/CR/R&S/Maurizio/etc and I could easily pick out which was which in a blind iPod shuffle.

Beyond that, I don't think anyone following the current dub techno scene, myself included, is in the dark about the fact that most of the music being made right now, by anyone, within that template, is largely "comfort food" and not meant in any way shape or form to do anything new or innovative. It's essentially the same thing that happened to synth-driven ambient music in the 1990s, or IDM in the early 2000s - the tools and process were demystified and then everyone was doing it - and that is not to say that no one made anything good anymore if there wasn't an envelope to push, but that some people just like listening to more of the same. For sake of my point, I can't think of anything I listen to beyond dub techno that is more repetitive and homogenized - however I enjoy it and appreciate it for the consistency that it offers, and just like all the dozens of ambient or IDM albums I own, it's completely reliable/predictable in a good way when the mood strikes.

funny thing is that they also re-release their stuff many times at year, tagged as redux/reshaped/variant/remodeled (which is basically the same boring BC/CR rip-off over and over again with very little variations and all that deluxe superlimited overpriced nonsense). :cerious:

i dont go mad for this stuff, but holy fuck is it deep and lush. hearing it on a beautiful soundsystem is just soundporn as far as im concerned, it sounds delicious, like musical opium smoke curling through an otherworldly sunset.

also listening to it on youtube is like jacking off to dog porn, the jacking off is ok i guess, but im not into dog porn. this shit is made for vinyl/lossless.

Agree completely with both of these, but new guy is also right in that they release a lot of pricey rehash. Having everyone working for your record label artificially inflate the rating of all your releases on discogs is the icing of poor taste though.

Oh I am totally with you there - I add or edit my own releases on Discogs all the time and not once have I ever even rated my own music there. I prefer to let the critical response (or lack thereof) to my work be as pure as possible.

I also agree about the reworks and so on. I think they're all quite cool most of the time but at the same time, I'm only really buying their stuff if it's vinyl - it seems a lot of the alt. versions and redubs and so on are digital or non-vinyl releases, and cost way too much considering. I do make an exception for anything Modell does solo however - his bar of quality when working alone is always very high.

I'm waiting for the FLAC version then if they're taking that attitude ...

EDIT: God I love BCN Dub - sounds kinda different on the preview there though, somewhat darker/moodier

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

idk about all the rehash and rerelease stuff as im not a completist, but I will definitely be checking this one out. Modell & Co. put out some great stuff
