am i the only one who thinks that video above is pretty boring?

i watched the first few mins or so and saw 1 young lad tapping 3 little pads with 2 fingers, and the other hitting some larger pads with a single drum stick...

*yawned* and then did something else.

Techno music is rarely enjoyable to watch. As far as what they are doing, its a lot more hands on than most other electronic artists. I like watching them because it really is live, it seems that they are making it more difficult than it has to be. That's what gives it such an organic sound. Love it or hate it, there is talent in there.

does Warp always refer to itself in the 3rd person?

yes it does, but they are reasonable people

I am in love with Glass Swords. Death Mountain kills it...in a good good way. Edited by l1fef0rm

Right well, they're taking a bit of abuse. I would say if you're new to them, Sketch On Glass is a fantastic EP, I adore it.

I love the album though, and some people didnt, what ever about it, I think its solid.

I do think they come off very strong on their EPs though, Maybes is quality and its not even their best IMO.

that's the first thing i heard by them. i guess i'm getting old, cos i find this boring and don't really get why they've been signed to warp, tbh.

can understand why Rustie was, and Hud Mo, and even Bibio.

dunno. there's just loads of other stuff they could release and people they could sign up that would just be so much better, imo.

but i s'pose they've gotta remain current and seemingly hip, even if what's current and hip right now is fucking shit boring.

i think mount kimbie is smooth and creamy sounds. i could see how the sounds might insight boredom in some. their musics quite simple, stripped down, minimal in its components and method. like some good lad spoke out previously, the really strong tracs are the ep tracs and i would agree. now, with warp mount kimbie has got to stay to their instrumentals, start simple with the fresh start. they could really finesse this if they take a calm, contemplative approach and don't rush in with some jamming vocal album.

I prefer Carbonated to Maybes

even if this track came out on warp 10 years ago it would still have been a bit boring and nothing special/new even back then.

weren't warp (supposed to be) a label that put out interesting, innovative and groundbreaking.. and fresh, electronic music?

what happened... ??

well at least this has made me appreciate what Rustie does a bit more. :)

i'll still check out MK's new release/s on warp and will hope that it's decent and not like what Redruth describes above.

and again, like i said before, congrats to them on the signing.

:two cents:

That vid was great, these guys make some lush tunes. Nice to see Warp helping them out, I'll look forward to future releases

I am with sirch on this one. Warp has always been my favorite label because of the ability they had to find the most groundbreaking artists on the field and to introduce a new page in the history of electronic music. i would say that about 50% of my physical releases were put by Warp.

and i am using the past tense because Warp is not doing this anymore. even though they signed great indie artists in the last years, they have moved a bit further from purely electronic music, which i don't find wrong, because labels, like people, have to move on.

Signing Mount Kimbie, a very popular electronica act nowadays, might be a brilliant move and a new page on the label, as these artists have a very particular way of creating music, or might just be an attempt of redemption, a way of Warp saying hey guys we can get cool electronic music too!

anyway, i will keep my eyes on them, as i do with all warp artists, no matter what

I'm not sure how you call what Rustie does fresh and innovative, but to each their own.

that's cos i didn't.

i was basically saying that this latest warp signing, as weak as it is/they are, has made me appreciate the signing of Rustie more, and what he does, in comparison to MK.

i wouldn't of thought what i said was that hard to understand...

but Rustie is pretty fresh now you mention it, compared to MK i mean.
