Warp: Mount Kimbie sign to Warp Records

i wouldn't say he's one of the best, but everyone has their different tastes. i think we can all agree that warp has lost some of its essence trying to become more profitable through the years. here's to hoping that slips into reverse

haha, warp were actually still releasing good/interesting electronic music up until the middle of the 2000's.

then they started releasing shit indie, indie cross-over bands and hipster music.

people are still making interesting, good electronic/techno music now, in 2012. so it's nowt about the 90's, ya twat!

it doesn't matter what fucking decade it is or was or will be. good music is good music! and warp hardly ever sign any decent bands or put out much good music anymore, imo. simples as that. :)

Hudson Mohawke might be the most underrated Warp artist from the last few years. Butter has been aging really well.

Meh. I didn't really care for Butter, I think his stuffs been getting weaker since that initial EP

The problem is WATMM has never moved on. There is so much going on right now in the electronic music scene, and all you can think about is what Richard is currently doing or what is happening with Boards of Canada's next album. Just let Warp (and IDM) die.

yeah some of those albums were alright. but the argument is about NEW warp signings mostly being shit?

but i can remember being 21 and loving everything and anything electronic/idm that warp, etc. labels put out.

Thats because warp were only pretty much signing idm, or interesting electronic music back then.

 

They cant make any new IDM signings, because no one makes it anymore. And the people that do are snap up by labels already see:Wisp, EOD

 

Warp probably needs to a bigger market to keep itself running. Where rephlex has a small niche but fuck all overheads.

I would argue that in order to better appreciate and understand today's music, one must be aware of what came before and influenced the current generation of artists.

Didn't Actress sign with Warp as well? What happened with that?

I think most people know what early Warp was like, if they dont theyre missing it out.

 

Ive managed to gather most of the stuff I thought was decent and I still think there is some weight to Enter's statement.

Harsh words. IDM is very alive, just not on Warp. Warp is kicking as well, just not in the IDM world. Warp is still putting out quality music. I'm not saying its all "good", but its not all bad either.
