Vinyl only.... wtf is this

At this point I'd like to go through your previous posts and make a thread of quotes that all express this exact sentiment.

Nothing personal at all, mind you - I just think it would be fascinating.

It sure does bother me.

edit: seriously though, I really don't get it. They're releasing this thing on ONE format, at a ridiculous price. It's almost like they DON'T want to make money. What's the point!?

I have to agree though it is a strange choice to offer this album only on vinyl. Seems like a conscious choice to alienate some of his fans.

Then again this is the same guy that released ceeland on cassette lol.

I'm still buying the vinyl though.

My guess is Ceephax will make this available as a digital download via his website in about 10-12 months anyways.

and it's 28 pound from another store - it will probably be a bit cheaper direct... and wasn't it listed as a 3LP? d

this sounds a bit more to my taste than most of what he's done in the last 6 or 7 years. great cover image too!

they have made CDs before, i think only of the Aqua Team release by Stingray.

I honestly don't understand how a forum of hardcore electronic music fans would be having a problem with a vinyl exclusive release. A decent turntable is very affordable these days.

unfriendly foil, get a turntable! or at least stop whining in literally EVERY new releases thread about how stupid the labels are that release vinyl only. according to your logic, weme, rephlex, etc. have to be enourmously stupid because they keep on with releasing beepy'n'boopy strange stuff nobody listens to on a format nobody listens to instead of releasing TIESTO vs. VAN BUUREN IN THE MIX 30-track mp3/m4a ultimate ibiza samplers every week. It's almost like they DON'T want to make money. What's the point!?

Because, if we're talking about an album release, vinyl is pretty much the single worst format, since it consists of multiple sides. Having to change sides 4-8 times during an album is completely ridiculous when you could just be listening to the whole thing in one go. I get that a vinyl sounds different, and if you want the vinyl release that's fine, but at least give people the option to buy the album on their format of choice. They release this album on vinyl ONLY (at least for now) for a price that's way too high for many (just look at the responses in here). Not even a word on a damn digital release. United Acid Emirates was available on CD, so why not this one?

Also, lots of people on here are bitching and moaning because Rephlex still can't get their shit together and update their online store, so why can't I bitch about this?

And jlobkobkbn, that's probably the shittiest post in this entire thread. Rephlex does the right thing by releasing EPs and stuff on vinyl, and albums/compilations on cd and I'm pretty sure I never "whined" about that. They actually use the formats in a way that makes sense, unlike Weme.

Guest bitroast

I'm sure this will be available on download.

If yes. Stopp your complaining. Cd is a pointless format anyway.

If no, it really is vinyl only(which no one has even confirmed / you're all just guessing here) then (and only then). Sure. Feel freeto complain.

I for one look forward to this 3x vinyl album:):)

You can buy a good turntable for roughly 100 bucks but this isn't cheap. CD is good for people who want a physical release instead of just mp3 files - it's not that "pointless". I'll probably won't buy this album if it's just on BandCamp, or if I do I won't get the same pleasure...

C'mon WeMe !!!!

All things considered, I think the contingent of complaining members here are simply barking up the wrong tree. This is non-mainstream, niche electronic music, produced and pressed by people who adore analog gear, recording devices and playback formats. It can then reasonably be assumed that they aren't really interested in pandering to sales figures, but rather, the demographic of others who enjoy the same things, and further, that this music is bring released partially out of a love of the process itself, rather than the result.

Also, split sides add a lot of dimension and sequence alteration to listening. Instead of a playlist, you have multiple opening and closing tracks, short connective vignettes make more contextual sense and themes can be applied and conveyed. Tapes do the same thing, and those have made an arguably equal resurgence in popularity for most of the same reasons I've listed here.

In short, analog formats go with the territory. While there is convenience in digital release formats, there's very little listening ritual involved and absolutely no romance. To me, buying a turntable to be able to explore and enjoy new things by musicians I like is akin to buying a gaming console to play a specific game. Sure, it's a cost, but once you have one, there's a lot more fun to be had.

Great post and is why CDs are gonna be dead soon. Casual buyers are fine with files, collectors/enthusiasts prefer vinyl/tapes more and more.

I don't want anyone to misinterpret my post - CDs and digital music both have their place as listening formats, however I felt the need to defend the opposite end of the spectrum also.

For example, I bought Exai on both vinyl and CD, because Autechre are enjoyable in both analog and digital capacities, and it should be easy to see how.
