my contract is up in february and i can get a new phone, had iphones for the last 4 years and currently rocking a 4S, but really not sure if i want an iphone 5....they're a bit meh. basically the same as what i've got already (and the 4S is basically the same as the 4 in everyday use - my GF's got my old 4 and when you use them side-by-side for normal phoney things, they're identical pretty much). so yeah, might wait it out for a 5S or even make the big break away from apple and get something else :cat: only trouble is i've got an imac and use itunes and obviously the iphone syncs with that really nice plus iCloud etc so if i do break from apple and get something else, maybe i'll lose a lot of funtionality? anyone else using a non-apple phone with a mac computer?

i was an iphone user since the first, and just made the switch from iphone 4 to an htc one x. i was looking for more from the 5 (and ios6), and yeah, it was a bit meh.

i've got a macbook and an imac, and i'm connecting my phone as a hd via usb, then dragging and dropping music and video, and it works fine to me. syncing via itunes was one of the things i was never happy with on my iphones, so it's been refreshing not dealing with it. i did try the official android mac sync application, but every time i ended up fighting to get my mac to recognize the phone in the correct mode (hd, file transfer, sync, etc.)

i'm enjoying android quite a bit, the flexibility is amazing to me. i'd say there are things about it i don't like compared to ios, but mostly it compares very favorably. the turn by turn in maps is quite nice.

cool, thanks for the info

Lately I've been using a classy music player app called DoubleTwist on my Nexus - you can wirelessly sync your iTunes library with it. It's the only Android media player I've seen which can compete with the polish of iOS and it's a great alternative if you're planning on making the switch.

Took a look at it - interface looks a bit gimmicky to be honest. I'm just in love with DoubleTwist I guess.

Anyway. Been screwing around with Android 4.2 today. A lot of people who are won over to Android by the Nexus 4 are going to love it and be surprised by the level of polish it offers, but a few things are really bugging me. Lockscreen widgets are a bit wack. So I now have 3 or more lockscreens I can scroll through? Fuck that, I just want one lockscreen with the ability to open the homescreen, Google Now or camera with one swipe, like in 4.1. The phone's fucking locked after all. Perhaps I'll get used to it but I think the new system is over-complicated. Some people will love it though.

This is quite petty, but my chosen custom launcher (Apex) is borked too. 4.2's only been out a day so maybe I'm expecting too much, but without my swish custom homescreens I feel a bit bereft.

The custom kernel I use to change the colour balance of the screen, enable faster charging by USB and over/underclock is also up shit creek with no sign of a paddle.

But this is all stuff that'll be fixed in the next 24 hours probably. I just can't resist jumping on a new update as soon as I can.

I just noticed that in every single promo shot of the Nexus 4, on Google's site, the time reads: 420. Some stoners on the marketing team!

wow, even in their video showing off voice search all of the shots of the device have the time set as 420. Some one really went out of their way to do this...

I just got the Nexus the other day. It's pretty damn awesome I'm actually typing this with my voice right now coming from the iPhone 3gs this is a huge upgrade! There are a few things that will take me awhile to get used to but overall I'm loving it.

No it's not possible to deliver to a custom address, it can only be delivered to the card holders address

i like it. i definitely like the lack of all the at&t bloatware. everything seems to run smoother (though it was plenty smooth on ice cream sandwich), and i haven't noticed my phone heating up once, and it would do so 3 or 4 times daily before jelly bean.

can you recommend any essential android apps or mods? i've only been on it for a couple months.

To increase battery life on your freshly rooted phone - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mhuang.overclocking (my HTC Desire lasted almost twice as long 'tween charges)

And to find it when lost and protect from dodgy apps - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Pete's borked tags aside, SetCPU is useful but it really comes into its own when you use it with custom kernels for your device. Exactly what's out there will vary from phone to phone, but the XDA forums for yours will give you some good idea. On the Galaxy Nexus I've had the best results with Franco's kernels - great performance and battery life.

Yeah sorry about the botched posts. I've always used the old BBCode Mode on here so I can specify what tags get used but it looks like the recent update has made it all kinda funky.
