I find it bizarre that so many people bought an IDM album as their first electronic purchase. I'd be interested in your opinions on non-IDM stuff, if IDM was the first genre of electronic music you really got into.

I used to listen to classic rock, alternative, metal, various instrumentals. I heard Avril 14th on the web. So I got Drukqs. I figured they were going to be all piano instrumentals, but to my surprise it was a kind of music I truthfully didn't know existed. I listened to it over and over again and really started liking it. Then I believe I got the RDJ Album next, and few others. I discovered similar artists too. Soon after I just started getting nothing but electronic albums for the most part. At first I stuck around IDM, but now I listen to every electronic genre just about aside from things like Skrillex (I like dubstep, but not like this.) and I've yet to listen to things like Merzbow, and not quite sure if it is worth it. So my opinions on non IDM. I like just about all of it.

Good lad. Although not obvious like the Prodigy or Chemical Bros I think Aphex has great crossover appeal, if you like darker strains of rock you will find something to like with Aphex, if you like more alternative/strange sounds of rock music will find something too appreciate with Aphex and if you like psychedelic rock you can also find that too.

The Future Sound Of London - Accelerator (2001 addition)

Before that i was in to rock music and indie and stuff like that. i was up late early hours as usual, I don't know why i'm nocturnal or something, anyway was watching MTV 2 and they played Papua New Guinea right out of the blue. It was the longer version taken from the Futureshock video. The strange thing was it seemed really out of place among the regular everyday indie rock bands that they played so much of at the time i guess it stuck out and grabbed my attention. It was Papua New Guinea that changed the way i looked at electronic music from there on. I realized that electronic music can be much more than just dance music. So i went out and bought accelerator just on the strength of Papua New Guinea as at the time I hadn't heard anything else by the duo, and had no internet at home so couldn't preview any tracks. But i liked the rest of the album enough and from there went and bought all the rest of their stuff and FSOL became my new favorite "band".
