i don't even know what's the difference between drone and ambient

In ambient music, stuff happens. In drone music, very little happens.

I don't also know what is supposed to be drone and what ambient and what just minimalism.. In my mind drone is more repetitive/unchanging and has less or no melodic content, but I don't know how widely that is the definition.

Anyway, if HAZARD is considered drone, then he's probably my favorite.

I like the crossover genres of ambient drone and drone ambient myself.

Didn't Sunn O))) start as a tribute to Earth? I like both of them (especially the recent Earth stuff) and they look really awesome live.

Yeah Sunn o))) for sure. My favorite by them is actually their most recent album Monoliths and Dimensions

Earth's early drone stuff like Earth 2 is extremely heavy and well done. This was the first example of drone metal I think. However I like sunn's take on it as much or more, while I prefer Earths output from the last 6 years especially Hex. These albums are in the drone tradition but they're fairly rhythmic too so they might not be suitable for this thread.

Thomas Dimuzio is also someone i never see mentioned in here and his stuff is great. He is also the master at improvising/performing completely live his style of music from a moog guitar with a very custom effects rig.

Helm compiled a great primer on some of his favorite drone records. Here's a youtube playlist

. The new Helm album on PAN is super too, but maybe a bit too busy to file under drone ?!

Also...KTL!

Some great stuff in this topic that I'd not heard before.

I recently picked up an album by a project called 'Eleh' called 'Location Momentum'. It's contemplative stuff...

Lichens is an AMAZING project by a guy called Rob Lowe. Seeing him live is absolutely transcendent...

Also, Stars of The Lid's older material would fit into the Drone mold, and it's mind-blowing as many here can already attest...
