Yep, it's all about Syd and the early stuff for me as well. Soundtrack of my early, wasted youth

I'm not too keen on the Barrett era - except See Emily Play maybe. But then…Too many wonderful pieces of music.

One of my favorite is the Pompei version of Saucerful of Secrets - the reprise starting at 5:09 with the Gilmour vocals gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Masterpiece.

Atom Heart Mother, Echoes and Shine On are classics among classics.

On Animals, Sheep is pure gold ! Way more violent than their usual output but beautiful as well.

As for the Gilmour era (AMLOR and Division Bells), High Hopes and Learning To Fly were great.

Are some of you into the solo Waters or Gilmour stuff ? The Pros And Cons Of Hitchhiking (first solo Waters album) is one of my personal favorites.

That's so wrong. Waters is a hell of a genius, as well as Gilmour. Way beyond Barrett imo.

This lyrical passage from Sheep also sends shivers down my spine, fucking brilliant. Pretty trippy.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want

He makes me down to lie

Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by.

With bright knives He releaseth my soul.

He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places.

He converteth me to lamb cutlets,

For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger.

When cometh the day we lowly ones,

Through quiet reflection, and great dedication

Master the art of karate,

Lo, we shall rise up,

And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

Also love the great guitar riff at the end of this track.

I gotta say, I kind of agree with this.

However, Waters is a very talented bastard.

genuinely epic.

That Pompeii live film is one the greatest feats of live music mixed with images to match the scale. To this day one of the greatest most enjoyable viewing experiences I've had.

Did you guys ever see the making of TDSOTM documentary?

Definitely a lot of Spinal Tap moments in that one.

I have watched it a couple of months ago. It was delightful to see the complex processes of crafting behind a record that is so simple. And the guys were perfecly synchronized back then, which lead to the magic.

I like the really trippy weird pink floyd material myself.

All of their work has been a huge inspiration on me musically. I wanted to play guitar when I was little, because of the opening to "Wish you were here".

and their crazy sounds have always been a huge inspiration because they are so unique to the band.

love love love pink floyd

Gilmour's solos, but particularly the solo from the live version of Echoes, at Pompeii, make me want to play the guitar!

I don't want to watch that movie ! The magic would disappear...Dark Side Of The Moon is such a huge album, it's all about magic and mystery to me.

Seeing the recording session in the Pompeii DVD already broke something in me :'(

Also, didn't Dave Gilmour and Roger Waters do a bunch of session work on "Barrett"? I know Gilmour did, for sure.

I'd like to suggest, however, if any of you plan to pick up any Barrett albums, just avoid the ones with the alternate takes. When I was at the height of my Barrett obsession, they released those and it actually made me sad to hear them. I think the albums are very strong, without.

If I remember rightly jeff, Gimour produced a lot of it and tried to coax Barrett into being more disciplined and make more of an effort, but I don't have the albums at hand to check. And I agree, I have those CDs with the extra tracks and it just seems to me like unnecessary grave-digging at times and highlighting how far gone he was in terms of channelling his own talent into something that did him justice. With the exception of the instrumental version of 'Late Night' (on Opel iirc) which is beautiful. Also loved This Mortal Coil's version of the song, very different but almost as lovely. But not quite.

Animals is a superb album, prefer to listen to it over DSOTM or sometimes WYWH. I can remember my old junior school teacher was into it at the time, I recognised his copy because my brother also had one. I must've been 6 or maybe 7.
