Xtal - guitar cover - aphex twin as a composer

Recommended Posts

I'm amazed at how many musicians pay a tribute to aphex twin music. The love that those musicians express for his music is the greatest sign of the greatness of the composer.

The more years go by, the more I realize how much Aphex Twin is not just an electronic musician, but a musician tout court. And probably one of the best composers of our time.

Found these two videos in the suggestions after Xtal, definitely worth a watch.

Nothing like some clean delayed guitar.

Holy shit, that disembodied phantom jazz guitarist played flim flawlessly. Want to sample, never to release.

Alberto Balsalm was pretty cool, but I would agree, if you hadn't heard the original, it wouldn't mean much. They would just be 'nice' guitar pieces.

I think my brain adds beats by default when I listen to covers. Like a merger of what's actually being played and what's ingrained in memory :D

i think this is a big part of why we enjoy these covers (or why some of us don't)

Quite nice, especially flim @ 1:08 is pretty neat, but if I didn't know these melodies from rdj tunes I don't think I'd like it at all...

Well, aren't you just saying that you like them because they're from rdj? I think that melodies are where aphex really shines, and those videos pretty much state that. If I think about, say, vordhosbn, of course there are wicked beats and wonderful sounds, but what make me wow more than anything is the melody, which is really meaningful. Then, being music from aphex twin, everything is mostly perfect... but the melodies are something special. imho.

  • 2 weeks later...

there is a flim cover published by sony and HHV (played on the TV series Stromberg)

I'gonna cop that.

(quite a nice interpretation though :))

btw I checked out this band after they got a fairly positive review in my newspaper but they're not that great.

edit: great drumming :O

The TV series where this track was played was kinda admired in germany, I'm a big fan of PMC label which is very close related to HHV. I'm not buying for sony or the band but it'll fit good because 7" is cute!

*edit :P
