I played 5 hours into the first one when I had the flu a few years ago. I got to a part that scared the shit out of me and i haven't tried to get further since.

Yeah the atmosphere is mad. And I love to look at the way they created those low-res visual elements...gothic cathedrals, dungeons, sewers all pixelated, but still amazing. Quite a job. The first time I played it I was about 12 and to me at that time it looked as fresh as real.

Hey do you know how can I free-look around with my mouse, I have checked all the settings but I still need to hold a key to look up/down...just lost my bearings on some platforms in 2nd episode.

 

If I remember correctly, I think I assigned free-look to my right mouse button and just held it.

If you're using vanilla quake (i.e. not through any of the fancy front ends) then you have to go to the console (~ ky) and type +mlook (or just add the line +mlook to ID1\autoexec.cfg, create the file if it doesn't exist). Though I highly recommend using Darkplaces (or the aforementioned tweaked version 'Quake Epsilon') where you can just set mouse look in the options menu

Playing Hexen now, after playing through Heretic, its predecessor. I'm usually not into fantasy games, but I'm picking up where I left off about 18 years ago, since I never played beyond the shareware/demo versions of either until very recently.

Heretic is basically Doom in a fantasy setting. Hexen uses the Doom engine as well, but with innovations in game-play, such as being an early type of open-world FPS and being able to play as different character classes with their own unique characteristics and arsenals. I'm playing as the Cleric because it seems to be the most well-balanced class in terms of physical stats and magic abilities, not to mention having a devastating fourth weapon. I think I'm close to the end of the game now.

Until June this year I was able to play more up-to-date major titles like Far Cry 3 and Borderlands 2 (which I kinda want to play lately), but had to sell the desktop for badly-needed scratch around the end of May. So I'm back to my four-year-old laptop for the time being.

I just got given a PS2.

seconded. that game just kept giving. The mercenary missions after finishing the game to unlock new weapons drove me mental. But, in the end, I got some money fucking weapons out of it upon completion. infinite bullets

i've been playing Divinity II for the last few weeks, good game though I wasn't familiar with the Divinity world before playing so it was a lot of new info being thrown at me. Kinda had a diablo sort of feel to the world, just a bit more self-aware (the protagonist starts moaning about ghosts with requests and tedious fetching quests about halfway through the game).

just bought influx on steam because I usually enjoy relaxing puzzle games, but every few minutes you get transported to this cube in space that rotates around with you in it, and i have recurring nightmares about exactly that situation, lol. i keep finding myself holding my breath playing it, like i'm about to die. i dunno why i'm so terrified by the idea of crashing through glass and suffocating while staring at a distant nebula, ship remains floating behind in a vacuum sea... oh wait

It's one of my favourite games. I loved the weapon upgrade system, the creepiness, the environment, the inventory and shooting dudes in the face.

The AI was ok too, there was always some fucker behind me when I turned around making me jump :(.

So much of the game was creepy, the dog maze, the monster in the hanging cages, the blind dudes, the alien-like monster in the sewers, the regenerators etc.

Also, I think the game was a perfect length. It really is a fucking good game.

Oh yeh, final thing, the music was incredible.

I just picked up the first Silent Hill for PS1, never played any of them before. So far I'm really digging it, the atmosphere is absolutely fantastic. Very Eraserhead-like use of sound. Plus gameplay-wise it seems to do a lot of things right that the first few Resident Evils completely failed at. Like being able to see what you're shooting at!

I was borrowing a friends copy of RE4 during high school and actually didn't get around to finishing it. I was loving it though!

I, more recently, purchased the HD version for the PS3 and it just was not at all the same. The upscaled resolution but lack of detail in everything else made it look and play like shit. Shame:(

Resident Evil 4 seems to be the best in the series. It's been quite a while since I've played it.

The only thing I don't like about it is escorting Ashley, because she acts like a dead-weight blonde damsel in distress. If she could handle herself like Elizabeth in BioShock Infinite and know how to avoid enemy attacks and drop supplies and hints for Leon, RE4 would be about perfect.

Seriously I cannot recommend this game enough, though I haven't had a single person on here actually talk about playing it. It should be 20 bucks or less now.

Its a mixture of RPG, strategy, and sort-of-an action/fighting game?

You play Nobunaga Oda and his retainers(vassals) as he tries to unite Japan. It's completely ahistorical, but the story is pretty awesome for a KOEI game. You fight individual battles as your armies, each of which are led by your different retainers. You can switch between them in live time and issue orders to the others. The big difference between Kessen III and the other two Kessens is that this occurs in real time, not turn-by-turn, which makes it amazingly fluid.

As you progress you get new characters, including some mythical ones (Hanzo Hattori, Goemon the Ninja, etc.). You also get exp in the field depending on how you fought, the exp gives you larger troop numbers and allows access to commander orders and spells. You also get gold from raids which you can use to hire new troops and weaponry, faster horses for your commanders, and spell books.

To top it all off, the game is soundtracked by a full orchestra, and it is fucking AWESOME. There is nothing more epic than using your riflemen and defensive spearmen to box in a numerically superior enemy, and hold them off until your cavalry descends from a hill and fucking TRAMPLES ALL OF THEM then the trumpets in the music hit the high peak of the song and your ninjas summon a dragon to set the battered enemy remnants on fire MUAHAHAHAHA GOD FUCK I LOVE THIS GAME>

Seriously, at least try this game out. Its fucking awesome and I wish it was more popular. I think the Kessen name sorta ruined its reputation.

By far my most-played game on my PS2 (ahead of Rez and the Silent Hill games).

Resident Evil 4. Such a great game. Also MGS2/3. I tried playing Onimusha again, but it wasn't as fun for me.

I haven't really played any GTA games since the first one, and my friend gave me IV to borrow. Started playing that. About an hour or two in. It's pretty stupid, but possibly in a fun and addictive timewaste way.
