What Video Games Are You Currently Playing

I'm kind of in a weird gaming phase at the moment. But I'll just narrow it down to the latest two games I've been playing.

I've put about half an hour into I Am Your Beast. One could argue that it's first-person Hotline Miami (similar to Mullet Mad Jack). I bought it because of Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam, but I don't like the fact that each mission is timed. I'm just not fond of the "speed demon" approach to shooters, when it's a mechanic that should be applied to racing games. Just detracts from player freedom and kills the more prudent, tactical approach that I prefer. (Unless it's something like Doom. I don't mind mobs of enemies as long as there isn't some bullshit time limit.)

I also played a bit of Sulfur. It's definitely more on the cartoony side, but as a semi-immersive roguelike it's good enough for casual players like me.

Still haven't played Metro Exodus, but it's in my library. Will probably start that one soon.

I picked up shovel knight treasure trove for switch on physical..  I own it digitally but it deserves to be in the collection.

I have very fond memories of this game. it might be my fave Fromsoft.

There is a Balatro addiction forming where 2 of my friends got extremely addicted independently from each other. I am not yet affected but I might try it as well soon 

more like Balsuxtro.

I beat Pikmin 4 and 100%'d it. Great game. Too handholdy at the start, and it fake ends up a bunch times, but just keeps on going.

Might be cool if it’s a budget title

Some are speculating that Valve has a project called HLX, which could be Half Life 3, which could be releasing at the end of 2025 with this new headset. 

We can only hope!

Interesting. And it seems like every week there are rumors floating around about HL3 currently in late-stage development.

As for VR, the whole reason I bought the Index five years ago (during the pandemic) was to play HL: Alyx. Still one of the best VR titles out there. I get the feeling that Valve's next headset will basically be a wireless Index. But I'm not sure if I'll buy it or not, since I rarely touch VR.

I started Metroid Dread. Pretty decent so far. I prefer the 3D Metroid style, but this is nice too.

uuuughhhh

Starting this a long time ago. Going to finish it this weekend.

Hopping back and forth between two indie shooters atm - Selaco and Extraneüm. Both are cool in different ways. The former draws heavy F.E.A.R. influence while pushing the GZDoom engine to its limits, and the latter is basically a cute "pixel" Doom with some satisfying fat, juicy bass synths in the soundtrack.

Still have Metro Exodus in my Steam library but haven't tried it yet. Maybe later this month.

that one's a bit more of a time commitment, like at least 50 hours. it's bigger in scope than the previous two, in a good way.

I bought Balatro on sale a week ago and already have 60 hrs.  Before that it was Brotato that I bought during the steam winter sale.  It's like they figured out some formula to up the addiction for these games, it's nutty.

My girlfriend and I are playing too and none of us can explain why. It's like a clicker. It just feel great to see the numbers go up.

Another thing I'm noticing is even if I have a great run and lose on anti8 I might be bummed for a minute but the excitement for starting a new run takes over immediately.  It makes the gaming loop hard to quit.

Balatro looks complicated, is it?

That's why I'm reluctant to dive into open-world games these days - they're just a massive time suck. Only on weekends do I really have time for them. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 for instance took me roughly 120 hours on my first playthrough. 

The first Metro was good but also very linear. Same with the second, even though I never finished it.
