have you played the original on PS2?

I just got the remake. But will wait playing until the graphics are patched up. Right now, on PS5 Pro, there’s highly noticeable weird artefacts from reflection processing.

It’s so strange, apparently if you’re a big game these days, you gotta have ray tracing, even if it looks worse than IBL & screen space reflections. There’s often this strange noisy temporal processing grain. Not sure what’s up with that, it’s a big regression in terms of how stuff looks overall imho.

The grain you're talking about is the denoiser that is trying to help with the heavy lifting of raytracing. There's been a bunch of games that have issues on PS5 Pro specifically by the way, so a patch down the line might help fix your problem. In my opinion raytraced GI/etc makes games ten times more immersive when done right, but there's only a few games that really implement it properly..  I'm so sick of SSR and TAA artifacts I'd honestly rather have a grainy raytraced look instead but that's just me.. Dragons Dogma 2 comes to mind for just how much it can help when done right. Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition has really great GI as well.. Cyberpunk with path tracing is just nuts.. Even if my 3070 Ti can't run it at all lol

There it is! I really hope they don't release newer first party titles on the old Switch still, I really want to see them push the hardware to the limit.. Looks great though

They’ve increased the size in every dimension, like they’re sizing it back up to a Wii U controller.

Looks pretty good to me on a standard PS5, though the last game I played was on PS3 so I might not be the best person to ask. No weird artefacts to report.

Played the original Silent Hill 2 way back in the day and again about 5 years ago with an emulator. Held up pretty well for a 20 year old game, but without the nostalgia the gameplay isn't great. You just either run past enemies or repeatedly bonk them on the head / shoot them.

Remake though...phew. After an hour or so working through the prison in particular I was genuinely jittery. There's a bit in the prison showers in particular that is just...nope. In the best way of course.

ok it’s good to hear. I’ve heard the remake defuses certain elements about the original, such as.. at the beginning, walking down through the fog, that this is fat less.. foggy. And yea, that the combat isn’t as terrifying because of the improved controls. So I was worried they jinxed it.

but here’s what leaves being blown around looks like on PS5 Pro. Has weird ghost trails and it’s a bit strange this got through QA

I do remember those little traces behind leaves, but far less obvious when I played it and also not nearly as white.

It does appear you may be able to turn the Joy-Cons on their side and use them as a track mouse, would be cool for the FPS / RTS crowds.

yeah this way you can finally play 3d shooters with precision.

they did not reveal the function of the mysterious  new "C" button did they?

I was excited for this but looking at the reviews, pricetag and gameplay shown so far, yikes. Looks like it's almost devoid of game, it's just this one strangely designed world with a bunch of frustrating bosses.. Hope they actually turn this around because I love the artstyle and HLD was awesome

You get HLD included for free this month with Breaker.

Metroid Prime 4 would be an ideal game for Nintendo to demonstrate whatever mouse / motion control functionality this console has, and there would be tons of 3rd party mouse accessories coming if so.

Yeah, they could also show the graphic improvements while still saying it’s downward compatible to the old one which would be a very smart Nintendo like move

I recently joined Heart Machine's Patreon until I saw the reviews for HLB. Seems like they opened early access a bit too early. Unfortunate, considering HLD is an indie masterpiece.

Speaking of indies, I managed to buy a couple relatively new boomer shooters for dirt cheap on Steam yesterday, including one called BRAZILIAN DRUG DEALER 3: I OPENED A PORTAL TO HELL IN THE FAVELA TRYING TO REVIVE MIT AIA I NEED TO CLOSE IT and it looks like jank euphoria. Can't wait to try it.

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

This is really cool, the new ray reconstruction code seems to fix a lot of the issues the tech had.. DLSS is probably the best thing to happen to gaming in a long time. Shame the GPU prices are still skyrocketing like we're all bitcoin bros who can afford a 2000 dollar GPU

Pretty far into this on PC, still haven't beat it. seems like it would work well on mobile.

EDIT: 7-5 just blew my mind. I didn't expect that mechanic to be allowed..

Brazilian Drug Dealer 3 is basically Brazilian Quake, and in turn Dank Memes in game form. The soundtrack sounds like a mesh of 90s Alec Empire and Datach'i.

Also pre-ordered Doom: The Dark Ages, because why tf not

Played and completed 'the talos principle', its good, it has a more explicit story than say, 'the witness', that motivated me to power through and get to the end (i got burned out on the witness at the very final final stretch). I'm tempted to do all the extra stuff, but probably won't.

ZOMG! Lazerz pew pew pew!!!!11!!1!!!!1!oneone!shift+one!~!!!

Haha, I haven't checked which one is 7-5, but being in world 7, i am 100% sure which level you mean haha 😄 Glad you came so far! Thanks for playing!

I just beat Astro Bot and got all the bots and puzzle pieces. I mean it's fine, but not game of the year material. Certainly not as fun as Mario Odyssey. 2024 was a very weak year for games, I guess.
