I know it's very hip to hate this for all kinds of valid reasons, buuut... I haven't played a COD title in years and years (so the repeated BS doesn't really affect me) and ever since this came out on Game Pass I've had a pretty good time. It's the only shooter in which the Xbox controller aiming is extraordinarily well calibrated and customizable, even without any "aim assist" voodoo. It's all in the curves I suppose, but it makes it so the controller doesn't feel like a disadvantage, compared to many many other big shooter titles. The weapon animations and audio are all top notch.

I've had some fun in the standard modes building wonky gun builds before getting bored, but the Zombies mode (disconnected from the current horror theme) is the one that really shines. Aside from the large scale lootin' & shootin' gameplay that just maintains an insanely intense level, it's also the rare kind of game mode in which people help eachother out. I get thrown various goodies on the regular and everybody will go out of their way to revive and rescue a doomed loner, even to the point of sacrificing their own questline. It's so easy to band together and just have a good time.

I guess it's easy to whine about the idiotic skins and microtransactions, lousy singleplayer, yadayada. I don't spend a dime on any of that or play those modes so it doesn't affect me either. My only real gripe is that shotguns aren't as cool & powerful as they should be.

The graphical upgrade in No Man’s Sky is really impressive, even on PS4, if you haven’t logged in for a while.

Is this graphic update available on switch as well? looks like you need a more decent system as the release was not running flawless on it in the first place

the Silent Hill 2 remake appears to be a hit. I'm glad Bloober's caught a W, because the hate campaign against them has always seemed unjustified and bandwagony to me. sure, they've made some bad games and The Medium handles a sensitive topic badly, but they've also made some good games (Observer, the first Layers of Fear which I immediately felt was spiritually connected to SH) and I don't believe in flushing a studio's entire reputation so easily over some youtube essays. good on them for remaking such a cherished title correctly cos the nerd rage was piling up heavy well in advance of the release.

on a whim I reinstalled the OG SH2 with the Enhanced Edition mod on top and played through it in a day. still hits hard, even with the jank of the time. the music alone, there's a reason it has persisted in the popular consciousness and actually grown over time even with newer generations.

I'm tempted to just dive into the remake straight away but a) it's steeply priced atm and b) I'm still on Cyberpunk. and possibly c) I shouldn't be spending a lot of time in that world with some of the shit going on in my life rn.

yeah, the music in SH2 is just so beautiful... It immediately puts me into a state of mind hard to describe (I just woke up).

Silent Hill 2 looks extremely tempting, but I really cannot stomach horror/fear in video games most of the time - although I finally managed to finish the Outer Wilds DLC the other day, which can get frightening really fast!

I also got my hands on the Phoenix Wright trilogy, solved the first proper case and I really did not expect the writing to be that good.

I'm a longtime horror player and I can tell you this game has some of the most relentlessly oppressive and threatening vibes I've ever experienced, which only build the further/deeper you go. I don't normally get jitters anymore but I just finished the prison/labyrinth sections, which make excellent use of darkness and sound to fuck with your head, and there is an encounter in there with a certain someone that had me stopping for a breather due to nerves. they've enhanced the original vision of the game in some of the best possible ways with current tech, it fully realises the feeling of descending into your personal hell.

I'm nearing the end now and reckon this will almost certainly be my GOTY.

OK well at least I know it really is not for me and I should probably spend money on a game that I would actually be able to play :emotawesomepm9:

I've only watched the trailer but Felvidek looks pretty good. Nice to see how indie devs are keeping video games weird.

no. i had one of these anbernic RG35XXH machines for a short while check out emulation; i looked at emulation almost 30 years ago when people just got started on the SNES and one or two games had started to be possible, ever so slightly. from anbernic i learnt this : the whole business model is producing ever so slightly better versions that come and go, so much so that they're not made in huge numbers, so they don't reliably have a place that lasts for a sustained period even when the guts might be tweaked a little next time. they largely seem to appeal to people who like to fiddle so much that perhaps they're so good at that they now don't notice it; it requires a lot of admin, unsuccessful elements in a game are always present, some consoles are emulated better than others and the best would be upto megadrive era, with N64 onwards more dodgy. if you don't like to fiddle, don't bother. machines that do have a sustainable usage, ones made by major manufacturers like nintendo, are born of better r+d budgets, have higher specifications, and can be (even when quite old) adapted to be used for emulation in a way that's far more reliable and capable than brand new machines from small companies. the steam deck might be worth looking at for this stuff, also.
