Ego Posted September 15, 2012 Report Share Edit Hide Delete Posted September 15, 2012 (edited) Hitboxes were too large in CS:S. They made them smaller in CS:GO. Combine that with new recoil behaviour and people start whining because they can't hit shit. I think it's an improvement. eugene
it's really really great, i managed to complete it today after about 25 attempts. the game mechanics are simply brilliant. although by the time you've completed it you'd have pretty much seen everything so there's not much replay value. Ego Posted September 17, 2012 Report Share Edit Hide Delete Posted September 17, 2012 Just finished Black Mesa. Apart from sticky ladders, some difficulty and level design issues this is pretty much the perfect love letter. It's unbelievable how much of the memorable stuff they got right or even improved upon without copying any of the source material. The enemy AI, the voice acting, the sound design, the level design, the scripted sequences... All so inspired by early and later Valve games yet never lazily copied over. I hope they get all the press praise they deserve next week. SR4
started another game of SKyrim, hoping to complete all the major quest lines. One thing that really blows my mind about this game is that you dont have a screen on the inventory to see what your character looks like (changing armor, weapons, etc.). There is even more than enough room to show that on the inventory system screen...why didn't they keep this feature from Oblivion? Drives me nuts. eugene
controversial opinion ahead: half life and its different manifestation are kinda crap. speaking of black mesa: it's extremely linear, the "puzzles" are much more frustrating than mentally challenging, random teleporting enemies when reaching specific points is a joke, combat too often relies on swarming you with enemies from preset points, you die 3-5 times, memorize their positions and then win, it's a load-save-load-save porn, an arcade platformer (always hated those) in the skin of an fps. at least half life 2 had a really great atmosphere, this one has nothing of that. baph
HL definitely needs to be located in historical context to be fully appreciated. But that doesn't seem hard to do? Joyrex
Finally at the end of Dead Space 2 on Zelot difficulty, and the last few chapters have been a slog, with little ammo, little heath, and no money to purchase either. The final confrontation (click only if you want to be spoiled) Reveal hidden contents Against the Marker and your dead girlfriend is a pain in the ass, especially if you're trying this with just one weapon (I'm using the fully-upgraded Plasma Cutter), and with such limited ammo I have (came into the sequence with only 13 shots TOTAL), it literally forces you to make every shot count - thankfully, I found a method to stock up on ammo - to expose the 'heart' of the marker, you have to shoot the manifestation of your girlfriend about 6-8 times, then she'll explode and the Marker's amour will open and you can shoot the heart - however, there are 'shadow' versions of the Pack (the little alien-like kids that run and leap at you and scream like kids when shot) that come from all directions as she slowly walks towards you - if you manage to shoot her enough times for her to explode, all shadow Pack members on the field will also explode, dropping ammo and occasionally, health. It doesn't help that it takes about 3-4 attacks from the Shadow Pack to kill you (even with the Advanced Suit and fully upgraded RIG), so you have to be fast and go through several cycles of killing her and building up your ammo reserves before you can even consider attacking the heart of the Marker. I worked at it for about an hour before giving up and deciding to tackle it another day, and I'm even considering regressing a few save points back to see if I can do a better run up to the end and go into the final battle with more ammo and health. Doesn't help that the Immortal Necromorph from the first game is back (more evolved) and stalks you through several chapters, all the while Elite versions of the toughest Necromorphs (the black coloured ones) like the Lurkers, Spitters, Scorpions, and Slashers all come at you at the same time while he follows you through doors (!). Even when you do the over-the-shoulder perspective you cant really zoom in to see facial features/minor changes like you could in Oblivion. Am I missing something? yeahhhhh you kind of are it's hard to explain. it's like a... spaceship simulator but also kind of a dungeon crawler/roguelike. the combat is real time but not really like a classic RTS at all, a good chunk of what you spend your time doing is damage mitigation and stuff like that. it's pretty unique. and yeah it's not the prettiest thing ever but it's a 9 dollar game made by like two dudes so you'll have that.
