Game Freak is what's known as a 2nd Party publisher, akin to Intelligent Systems or Retro, (although we're dealing with Niantic here as the actual developer) they operate independently of Kyoto, but yeah Nintendo takes a cut of the profits or losses. Their whole corporate structure is somewhat murky by design, and then they reorganized everything recently to combine development teams, so it's anybody's guess. Game Freak also has a game out on PS4, so they can publish on any platform really.

And Game Freak is independent of The Pokemon Company, which is the license holder to the Pokemon Franchise (Not sure how much of or how Nintendo is involved with The Pokemon Company).

Yea that whole situation is corporate murkiness, I mean Satoshi Tariji was working for Nintendo for like 6 years while living with his parents and developing Pokemon for the GameBoy, but they set up a separate company to publish the games? They must have had an idea to merchandise the shit out of this if it was even mildly successful in Japan, and then it just exploded, especially after reaching the West as Pokemon. Too much focus on one IP for Nintendo to devote resources to, so just spin it off and cash the checks.

what's a modern, graphically intensive pc game that can be had for <$10 and is actually good? got a new videocard that i'm looking to test. the only remotely new game i have is sfv and it runs at 1080/ultra/60+fps and looks great (way better than ps4) but i realize it's not that demanding.

Was gonna say Layers of Fear but that's a little above your budget (think I bought it in Early Access when it was closer to $10)

The lighting and texture shaders are just mmmmmmm

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

i cant run farcry 4 on ultra ultra settings with my gtx 770 at 1080 resolution.

its also probably not dropped to be that cheap yet though.

Do we know the price yet? It'll probably be $60 but I'm hoping for $40. I haven't played Minerva's Den yet so this'll be the perfect opportunity

So is it a remaster of Bioshock the same way Bethesda are doing with Skyrim? If it's just a graphics upgrade then it's basically the same game from before, innit? I hope triple-A developers don't make a trend out of that as a cheap cash grab strategy.

At least Id Software played their cards right with this year's Doom reboot, because it is essentially a new game, not just an old one with new makeup.

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

well i think skyrim did the same thing in that if you owned the pc games and all dlc you get the new version for free. i own bioshock 1 & 2 from either steam or humble bundle sales that i paid next to nothing for. i've never played them because i didn't have a pc capable of it but now seems like a good time :)

or out today the lovely looking abzu on offer on steam ,getting good reviews ,meant to be a bit like journey but under the sea

tried free doom demo on steam. runs on ultra full speed on open gl but seems to have more hiccups on vulkan (really not bad at all though). looks amazing. crazy i couldn't even watch 1080p videos on this same pc (just shy of 6 yrs old) and now i can pull this stuff off all with one piece of kit.

also easy vita/psvt homebrew(emulators) is here: https://henkaku.xyz/ and no need to pay for an exploit psp game that will get patched :)

playing early access formula fusion (the wip3out clone from the old psygnosis devs). it's definitely coming along and they just put out a big update in july. 4 tracks and a mockup of the ship upgrade feature and somewhat playable online multiplayer. definitely don't feel bad about kickstarting it. http://store.steampowered.com/app/389670/

and in getting back in those messageboards a bit found out about ballistic ng which is basically a carbon copy wip3out clone and is a free steam game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/389670/

between ff being in early access/active development and my new card probably not having optimized drivers yet i'm not getting the best performance in it. still fun to dick around in though

I sold my PS4. I'm now 100% a PC gamer. Uh, master race n' such!

I've been playing Overwatch, The Witcher 3, MGSV, Rocket League and just started playing WoW again in preparation for Legion.

If anyone wants to join me in Overwatch sometime, feel free to add me on BNet: Rahlorg#1476

Go ahead and add me on Steam as well: Rahlorg

Loved the vibe of BioShock 1. never checked out the others. I could probably revisit.. for cheap.

I'm on a retro kick and am playing Super Metroid right now. Very addicting.. holds up incredibly well. I think I needed something super straight forward after Witcher 3 (which was obviously incredible)

I finally started playing DOOM. 5 minutes in and there already is testosterone and adrenaline pouring out of my mouth.

Also playing through Deus Ex HR for the second time, the Director's cut this time, before Mankind Divided comes out. Still an awesome game but I can't say I'm really hooked. I can only play a couple hours before being bored sneaking through air vents and playing hacking minigames.

BioShock 1+2 are some of my favourite games, although I haven't returned to them in a long time. BioShock 1 has some of the best (if not the best) atmosphere I've experienced in a game.

New Crucible DLC for Grim Dawn just came out, $5, great fun if you're into ARPGS (Diablo 2 era)
