XI year old Autechre Album Released: Exai (WARP234)

Flep is a piece of shit man, dude elbowed me hard while i was walking around in LA.

Man I love all the implied melodies. Fucking juicy. I get all these things stuck in my head that aren't really there.

This could become my favorite AE, but it feels dumb to say that so soon / or at all. No real need to rank them as they all serve different moods/atmospheres to a degree. But yeah this one right out of the gate has been immensely satisfying and overwhelming. There are moments where I can't believe what I am hearing exists.

Oh bliss! Bliss and heaven! Oh, it was gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh. It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now. As I slooshied, I knew such lovely pictures!

Man it's gonna suck so bad when I get sick of this album and have to come down and start listening to other music. Oh well. Enjoy it while it lasts!

funny story: as much as i like Exai, there is no way in hell this is the best autechre album. Far from it, but still very enjoyable to listen to

What's really funny to me is how skeptical I was of this in the beginning and now I'm loving the shit out of it. It's still pretty early to tell but this could be the exact opposite of Oversteps.

Like others are saying, it's the second half that really won me over. And there's lots to pick out on repeat listens. After the last couple albums, I basically forgot that a new Ae album is supposed to be difficult to wrap your head around on the first listen, as much as I like Oversteppah, MoT. This one is a shiny new present with gadgets and bells n whistles.

obviously confield and draft and ep7 are better but it's pointless to even go there ;)

exai is fucking sick.

I'd take this over draft and cornfield. then again, I'd take untilted over those two also.

Listened for the first time at work today. First impression: "that's a lot of nasty FM, and agressing HPing".

Second impression: "God damn this album is funky!"

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, as I haven't read the whole thread, but has anyone else thought that this sounds more like Gescom than Autechre?

agreed with all of that. i mentioned the Gescom feel in Flep in particular. i'd have excused the existence of nodezsh and runrepik if they were on a Gescom album. ;)

i'm getting very much the same vibe from it, that an phonecia. which is strange because with AE and those guys it's always been the other way around

this album.....

it's such an evocative, visual album. psychedelic is an accurate description.

i can almost imagine it having 70's style prog art as opposed to some black and grey squares.

What time is it where you are? 730PM for me. I tend to mix some psychadelics with the mushrooms so I prefer to have my session around 2 in the afternoon.

I'm not sure where to put Exai on scale with other albums but one thing i'm sure of is that i feel the genius of Ae is there in every single track but it's too soon to see the whole picture...only time can unveil its true nature.

At first i thought that Overmoves is shallow and superficial (in comparation to Confield-Draft-Untilted) but lately I've seen and learned so much from it. I was very wrong about it. Very wrong... I can only imagine what Exai is gonna do to me ones it maturate.
