Terpentintollwut
I watched "I Am Legend" (again) because it was on TV last night. Saw it in cinema back when it came out. Yet another great example of how something that could have been quite good can be ruined very efficiently through the use of ridiculous CGI. That movie is epic and inspired me a great deal. are you familiar with his other work? Albeit his work might seem derived from the same idea, I very much appreciate his narrative and inventive ways of filmmaking, which took many forms and all are soothing: 2046 is a warm poetic masterpiece, while Chunking Express comes from a bit "colder" aspects, and Fallen Angels becomes even more radical in this respect, but none of them looses the depth required. The emphasis is on camera, colours and innermost feelings that come out this way. Similar approaches were studied by Godard or Bertolucci but they never achieved the same depth and sincereness as Wong Kar Wai did. IMO. But then again all three of them are very different artists... Guest Blue Peter Cheat
I saw a bit of one of those Transformers films last night (Revenge of the Fallen). Mesmerisingly shite. I couldn't understand what the fuck was going on; everyone involved must have been on bad drugs. No intelligable dialogue, the camera jerked all over the place, the robots had 'hilarious' human accents and 'attitude' (one behaved like a talking dog, humping Hot Chick's leg at one stage). It was just an absolute mess. I'd liken it to Skrillex in movie form. Who watches this shit? Dark Skies - 4/10 It was Ok-ish, some nice ideas but too many glaring plot holes and - the ending aside - unsatisfying. Altered States - 6.5/10 Nice visuals. Brilliant opening shot. I don't like William Hurt. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/75962-films-recently-watched/page/110/#findComment-2003630 Share on other sites
mrbeneboi
Iron Man 3: ~6/10Watched this at IMAX in 3d while skipping work one day last week and it didn't leave much of an impression. I think this will probably be the last movie I watch in 3d at the theater, it looked really really low quality, however that might be due to the fact that it was a digital IMAX and it wasn't shot in 3d. I dunno, whatever, it wasn't great but probably better than the second one. Guest Jimmy McMessageboard
The East New film from Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij. I loved sound of my voice so was excited for this. it was good but an over-reach. it's a thriller which is obviously much harder than a talky. A lot is wrong with it but it was still fun. Hard to score. Maybe a 6/10 oh and Ellen Page is in it. I guess it is better to over-reach than to under-reach. sound of my voice cost $135k to make the east cost $6.5 million. seems like they spent it on actors, lots of familiar faces. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1869716/ Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/75962-films-recently-watched/page/110/#findComment-2003873 Share on other sites
