Awful

Anya Taylor Joy was cast as this pathetic Russian riot girl hot chick sniper that dances and wears dms

The male actor whoever the f he is from the drum movie who they wanna make all muscles is shit and has no charisma

The story is so dumb and contains both military porn and anti corporation vibes bites hard off annihilation without the style

They even have the whole communication of feelings off paper signs sap

Has Anya in it being super cute so... worth it imo.

I can imagine a version of this film going in a Tarkovsky/trippy/existential direction but yeah... Its kinda drivel.

Still worth.

Thinking about going through Samuel Fuller’s filmography over next few months. Only one of his films I’ve seen is White Dog, one of my favorite films. Fuller was a decorated veteran of WWII, and a lot of his films are about war, but I checked his top 12 films on imdb and he did work in a few different genres as well. Any Fuller fans in teh house can recommend this undertaking?

bushido / gobangiri by kazuya shiraishi

samurai drama exploring a relationship or balance between goban (duty) and ninjo (compassion) in which yanagida is a samurai exiled, and a keen player of the board game 'go', through which he builds friendships and maintains his connection to following rules, through which he then is accused of a second crime.

seeking revenge against the man responsible for his initial exile, a former 'go' opponent, and attempting to save his daughter from prostitution as their fates worsen, he must set things straight before the end of the calendar year strikes. he is then torn between the greater freedom he finally feels on the road and returning to defend and restore his reputation too.

crisply told and shot, modest in scale but beautiful, shiraishi gives the story a largely very successful slow burn with pay off and surprises along the way. although 'go' is central, it's theme of captured territory and structure are a way to highlight yanagida's greater conduct, through which others learn good lessons or suffer, through their varying ability in matching him.

Fritz the cat. Classic. Last time I watched it was like 20 plus years ago, yeah 👍

A studio mate had an exchange with R. Crumb recently. Dude is still bitter about it, 54 years after.

watched The King Tide per Mike & Jay's recommendation and rather enjoyed it. nice and simple and felt like a solid short story, just up on the screen. i'm not sure it was great, but it was rather good. 8 dead fish out of 10

not sure if its just me, but since 'oppenheimer' i feel like chris nolan set a standard where it was okay edit feature length films as trailers. only stand out for me was johnny cash: actor and character jived in a way the rest didn't really, although chalamet clearly gave it his all

6/10

also: lol @ this film

Anyone seen this new cut of Caligula? It’s supposed to actually be good.

Yeah alright, it's no Ghost Watch, but it's an entertaining tightly spun little film. Goes by in a flash, super silly in parts

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

watched it last night.

i think this could have been really interesting, but the filmmakers didn't have a good enough grasp (or control) of the story so the mixed acting, the "possessed girl" and the annoying guy that didn't want to believe anything overacting, and that finale was a complete nose dive

i liked the finale because it felt like a cronenberg movie. been a while since i watched it though

Almost a 9 out of 10, it subverted your expectations, the productions design, lighting and music were great, hints of late 90s/early 00s survival horror, and a sustained sense of dread throughout. it was just the last 5 minutes that were cheesy.

Under the Skin - for the fourth time, I think?

Movies rarely make me queasy, but this movie never fails to make me feel absolutely awful. I'm always totally giddy when I put it on and then halfway through I feel like lying down. The scene on the beach kills me - especially the aftermath - and the "underwater" scenes make me feel claustrophobic as hell.

The movie is just pure evil and I kinda love it.

it's a good'un.
