Nosferatu was really, really good. deep & dark & swaying from act to act. thick & dense as the blood all over the fucking movie.

go watch it in the theatres. unless you're a bitter 'yeah it's just Dracula/classic vampire basically, nothing new *yawn*' type in which case no one cares what you think anyway so don't bother.

It was good, the 3rd act dragged a little but the FX and makeup were excellent. 3 hour director cut likely coming to 4K blu-ray:

oh nice! it definitely felt like a lot was trimmed to tighten up the pace. the first 1/3ish felt rather rushed in particular...tho i don't think it took away once i fell into the rhythm of it. that said, i could see a slower pace & longer cut working, will be looking out for that!

leave the world behind - I loved everything about this movie specially the end, which I kinda predicted but I really wanted it to end like it did... the little girl steals the show 👏

saw Nosferatu the other night, it was good, but so far my least favorite Eggers (haven't seen The Northman, tbf)

That one REALLY did not click with me, probably my lowest scored movie of last year (out of like 170)

I don’t think I’ve seen any of Eggers films yet but this trailer really caught my eye. I also watched the original just a few weeks before on a whim. This is a rare case when a remake is actually justifiable given how old the original film is (1922). I have to ask though, besides looking phenomenal does it genuinely feel unsettling/creepy?

yeah, it freaked me out in several parts.

Sounds good. Gonna go see it with my girl later tonight in (or on?) IMAX.

No Stone Unturned

A great documentary about RUC collusion and British army involvement in the massacre of innocent Irish men watching Ireland beating Italy in a pub in Co Down in '94, a disgusting look at our rotten past and British state sponsored terrorism, they have to dramatise these before the BBC consider showing them in Britain as fiction

Saw Nosferatu. Definitely an eggers movie. But…

Nosferatu. We both enjoyed it.

Nosferatu was cool. I liked how it sometimes felt like an old timey movie. I didn't like the northman much but im grateful that films like these make it to wide release theatres.

ZOMG! Lazerz pew pew pew!!!!11!!1!!!!1!oneone!shift+one!~!!!

felt kinda meh about Nosferatu. I dunno, my guess is it won't age all that gracefully. Somehow the production itself was so overly front and center, like, priority one seemed to be those dynamic camera pan transitions.. people running around like blocks of wood with a monotonous sense of desperation, urgency and doom, seemed to only exist to glue together the edits. girl body spazzing out "doom horny creepy". the camera would swoosh around them, then into something and you get another expensive special trick cut, zzz.

Young Guns - I preferred Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid overall but this one was a lot more engrossing than I expected. Surprisingly more accurate at times too despite some historical liberties and it's very late 80s soundtrack and editing moments. Great cast too.

Phantom of the Paradise - Finally watched this one, I've been intrigued by it. Nice mix of dark humor, kitsch, and legit tragedy. Not too experimental but there are some interesting shots including a split screen long track. Lot of 1970s goodness in terms of set design, costumes, etc. Also another curious entry of the "1950s nostalgia 20 years later" phenomenon in some of the musical numbers. By the way, nothing beats watching something with such unintentionally distinct aesthetics in terms of era - in other words one of those films that was fresh and contemporary then but now serves as a time capsule.

Wallace & Grommit: Vengeance Most Fowl.

🤣👌

Is it any good?

Unrelated: Watched Le Départ (1967) yesterday - not the best film Jean-Pierre Léaud has been in.

Decided to give a couple highly acclaimed films that I never got around to watching and are now decades old.

Heat- Very good performances as you would expect with De Niro and Pacino leading opposing sides in what culminates in a high-level bank heist and a game of cat and mouse with the LAPD. Really good supporting cast as well although this did not give me the same kind of adrenaline rush The Robber did. It was definitely the huge over the top 90’s blockbuster I thought it would be so it delivered what was expected but was also a little over the top as well. 8/10

Gladiator- No idea why I never got around to watching this but I fully understand the hype now behind people buying tickets to see Gladiator 2 in the hopes it could recapture even a piece of the magic that this film had. A quarter century old now but goddamn it was good. Amazing battle sequences, storyline, acting, sets, costumes, the whole thing. Crowe and Phoenix were perfect casting and performances. 10/10 will watch again.
