I watched this so you don't have to: Carry-On

No one should ever watch this. Jason Bateman is in it, so you think, how bad can it be? The only reasons I can think of for Jason Bateman to be in this are: he has a very very very serious drug addiction or gambling problem and owes a lot of money to bad people; or, the producers have him on film doing something morally reprehensible (and this is hollywood we're talking about).

There is nothing redeeming about this festering pile of shit. Nothing. I'm so angry I wasted two hours of my growing ever-shorter life watching this. This is very bad and everybody associated with this movie should be ashamed of themselves.

I spent an hour screaming "JUST TAKE IT OUTSIDE!"

Netflix needs to stop it.

saturday night - I dunno who the audience of this movie is supposed to be for... maybe for the characters portrayed in it and all the people involved... the fast pacing direction is annoying and can't really keep one's attention... a doc would do a way better job... it's one of those movies to watch while you're driving...

dream scenario - I can understand why some folks might look at this as the new-age version of the black page but it was still a great watch nonetheless... great mix of funny and grim moments...

Watched Ratatouille for the first time with the family today. Kinda random as it had zero Christmas tie-ins but I gotta admit I enjoyed it.

I'm pretty hyped for that. Looks like it'll be a visual knockout no matter what else it's got going on.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

infinity pool - I'm not even gonna talk about the biggest loophole of all time in the film industry... the best way to describe this movie is trough the main character's book review, I guess it was intentional and definitely tongue in cheek but that just turned into a really lame copout from mr. brandon to justify how shitty his movie is, I mean, he even mentions that james's book [infinity pool] only got any media attention because of his father in law [david cronenberg]:

Seeming to recognize his own lack of talent, newcomer James W. Foster overcompensates with pretension, failed posturing that only serves to emphasize how truly terrible this debut really is. It's a book that has nothing to say and lacks the words to say it. One can't help but wonder whether its very existence is owed to Foster's powerful father-in-law, media mogul Edward Servek.

Titane is also a social commentary on trans people right? or a critique to masculinity? or a lot of other things, can't really decide which one, or probably all of them together? or maybe I just completely missed the point... tough watch, had to turn my eyes aside from the screen in some scenes... good movie anyway, lush european cinematography... great performances...

Agreed. I enjoyed it more than any of the other films since Aliens (which I saw when it was first released on VHS).

Watched Perfect Days last night. The premise sounded boring to me at first, but I ended up liking it more than I thought I would. I just get a zen-like vibe throughout the film. Plus Koji Yakusho is just a solid actor.

I was personally saddened by the lack of principal McVicker presence this time around, but otherwise I'm convinced that Mike Judge is still going strong at his craft.

japanese organised crime boss by kinji fukasaku (1969)

a ninkyo (chivalrous) yakuza drama, with a jitsuroku (true document) style plot, straddling these two broad sub-genres of such films, in which the events of the yamaguchi-gumi post war are fictionalised. struggles for turf, both somewhat verbal and largely physical or with guns and knives, in yokohama, in which small local gangs act as a proxy for larger ones. the smaller hope to grow and gain the advantages of the larger, and the larger hope to exploit the smaller by distancing themselves from consequences.

everyone seems to know the risks of things getting violent, but it doesn't stop them finding any excuse to self-destruct. a lot of necessary additional explanation of how yakuza power structures work within organisations will mostly be found across multiple films rather than repeated in each one. largely, bosses also isolate themselves from the risks of naive younger men, usually lost or unable to fit into normal lives, they have somewhat legitimate appearing places within an organisation that connects to the wider world and exploits or corrupts it for a living that's excessive for some and tempting for others further down the chain. those that survive might ultimately rise to the top.

this film is apparently fukasaku attempting to talk about current political war tactics in which nations use troops from territories they influence across the globe, dressed as something else entirely different. familiar use of detailed shots captured very casually, in kinetic style, are less habitual or obvious at this time, and the plot is lighter and easier to digest than his seventies films like 'battles without honour or humanity'. it's still quite a challenge to follow, but very engaging. central to this are relationships that are very much about men who prefer the company of other men, but aren't averse to the charms of women.

Watched "War of the Rohirrim" because it's already on streaming.  Have to give it maybe like a 6.5/10.  Nothing really redeemable about it, didn't care about any of the characters, and the plot was subpar.  Didn't feel any heart or soul in it.  Kind of like Hobbit movies.  Just meh.

NOSFERATU IS REAL GOOD, that is all.....

I don’t think I’ve seen any of Eggers films yet but this trailer really caught my eye. I also watched the original just a few weeks before on a whim. This is a rare case when a remake is actually justifiable given how old the original film is (1922). I have to ask though, besides looking phenomenal does it genuinely feel unsettling/creepy?
