Watched heretic.

It's entertaining i guess, nothing deep, ending's slop.

ZOMG! Lazerz pew pew pew!!!!11!!1!!!!1!oneone!shift+one!~!!!

the substance - style over substance am i right? direction, editing all those specs top notch but the movie is just silly and everything looks so AI generated that ends up not even being disgusting...

alien romutlus wgatc isface - again, top notch everything visual, specially set design, not sterile at all like most cgi nowdays, guess it was all IRL, must have cost lots of cash to make it but it doesn't really bring anything new... it's basically just a remake for teens...

smile 2 - this as gotta be one of my favorite movies ever, gotta rewatch the 1st one, this was just superb... not even gonna elaborate except this:

yeah, nothing deep, but it was fun. I left the theater feeling meh about it, but over the next day I started to recall more details and find quite a bit to like.

The Holdovers was great and warmed my heart. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a bit of a holiday movie and that I happened to watch it near the holidays.

shinobi : band of assassins by satusuo yamamoto (1962)

large scale, largely predictable and familiar commercial vehicle period drama for daiei with raizo ichikawa in the romantic lead. noted and apparently remembered for it's clever revised representation of ninja's, in which their skills are more practical, less fantastical, but aided here with some momentary use of special effects; leaping, escaping, weaponry.

set in the 16th century, oda nobunaga (tomisaburo wakayama of 'lone wolf and cub') is undertaking a series of large battles, massacres, to seize power over the country. the secretive ninja's , usually for hire by such people as nobunaga, realise they must seek opportunities to assassinate him, as he will eventually come for them too.

ishikawa goemon (raizo ichikawa) is the focus of how a ninja's responsibility and code must be undertaken, with some rivalry and character flaws for dramatic effect (romance, considered a weakness and forbidden), amongst the most elite talented young figures in his clan. a rival band of ninja complicates things a little more as things play out.

this is a set from radiance films, of the first three of many films made in the 'shinobi no mono' series, with only these actually based upon a then-current published story taken to be an allegory for contemporary political upheaval in japan, and contains some potential social commentary on the relationship between left and right. it's a large academic point, and the film itself is dated but impressive for it's scale and quality production values beyond a rather convoluted plot, somewhat based on real characters, but fictionalised.

Well, they've certainly nailed that ghastly AI aesthetic, makes it easier to shift into fully machine generated Disneyvomit in the future I guess. Sign me up.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Hey everyone, I'm proud to announce that I've come to the conclusion that Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is the most perfect film ever.

things I missed the boat on and will most likely never get into at this point:

  • Stah Wahs
  • Indiana Groans
  • Loadbusters

Rottentomato scores make no sense. If everyone agrees a movie is just above average the movie will land on 100%, right? I mean, look at Annabelle Creation. It was garbage, but the RT score was 70%

been trying to watch a movie in its entirety for the last few days but I can't make it past the first 30 minutes... I just pick up my phone and let them playing in the background...

I have to admit I really loved the first two films when they came out. Seems like everyone took the whole sprinting undead concept and ran with it. Plus as we all know the exhaustive use of zombies in everything is only rivaled by the endless inundation of superhero horseshit. We can’t fault Danny Boyle for all that so I’m probably gonna grab a ticket for this one  off the strength of the first 2 films.

*off the strengf of the first, which is in a class of its own. the second one is extremely mid.

shame the first was shot on such primitive digital, rewatching it now it looks like a 240p youtube video. not without charm though.
