I was thinking about that, you know, 90's stuff, at the time seemed very modern and of the moment, but now is a part of a world that doesn't exist at all any more. In fact we don't even have a world now - this era has no uniting feeling of any kind - just lots of self involved little niches...

I love Eyes Wide Shut and feel plot wise and performance wise it's very strong. The main glaring thing to me though is the blue and red motif which Stanley used in so many of his films and really goes to town with in this one. In previous films it was subtle (The Shining) but in this one it's distracting.

Watch EWS now, and assume the infidelity is a metaphor for Scientology and how that destroyed their marriage. Might make it more timely. And the prostitute can be Katie Holmes.

Fruitvale Station - Hard to rate, very well made, amazing pacing and structure of the shots/scenes - heartbreaking story

The only thing distracting about Eyes Wide Shut is ass and titties.

pretty sure the overuse of the blue light in eyes wide shut is for a reason (not sure what or want to get into conspiracy crap) but it always interested me that its used at the end of this scene when sidney pollack is telling the scientology medal of valour winner what REALLY happened or did it or did it etc (from 4.00 in) + also when he finds the mask on his pillow + when hes thinkin about the sailor with his wife . think it has something to do with it all being a dream or something? . cant think why you would have a strong blue light coming in thru your windows in the middle of noo yoik city anyways + its not just there because it looks cool. cos it dosent really

Eyes Wide Shut is definitely the type of movie that really leads you into reading between the lines. I think it pairs really well with mullholland dr or blue velvet. It has those Lynchy vibes.

Robocop 2014

4/10 - More competent than the typical bastardized 80's remake (see: Nightmare On Elm Street, Total Recall), but still totally vapid. It feels like an algorithm generated this soulless waste.

The Rover, as planned. excellent/10. exactly what I thought it would be, pulled no punches. Guy Pearce was in top form as usual. R-Patz did pretty well, got much more respect for him now. the events in this film could easily come to pass exactly as depicted, and that is its main strength. will be seeing this again when it has its main release in a few days.

also rewatched Animal Kingdom later, still fantastic. I'm very glad David Michod hasn't fucked off to LA or something, Australia needs to hold on to such fine young directing/writing talent.

Prisoners. Engaging plot with some good acting. Wish some of the characters were flushed out more but the acting made up for that. Plot was interesting enough to keep me interested and guess throughout 2 and a half hours. Will def check out more from this director

10/10 - great interviews, well put together, tackles one of the penultimate philosophical issues of modern times: the personhood of animals. couches compelling video and scientific evidence regarding the mental and emotional sophistication of orca whales in the history of trainers being killed by orcas at sea world and similar establishments. also some corporate crimes, lies and coverups mentioned in passing.

The Summit - Fantastic documentary about a very tragic series of events. Mountain climbing is some extreme shit.

yes that and they should have capitalized more on the angst felt by Cruises' character, which I hear is more apparent in the original script and manga. It would be rough living that day over and over. I enjoyed the shit out of it as well. Edge of Tomorrow 7.5/10

I haven't watched a film in a while.

I just go into theatres, watch a movie for 15 minutes and then leave and ask for my money back.

Only Cannes yet, if i'm not wrong it comes to European theaters in Autumn. 3D is more for disorientating effect, the quality from trailer looks homevideo-like as with Film Socialisme. Man's 83.
