i've been slowly going through the paul morrissey/andy warhol films chronologically, and this one is currently my favorite. last one was women in revolt and though it had it's moments, was probably my least favorite (had to give it to holly woodlawn though because she's killed every role i've seen her in)

anyway, this one was just straight up hilarious, and kinda played like a cross betwix john waters and max hardcore with the random and seemingly juvenile-straight-forward acts of perversion. sylvia miles was gorgeous too

The Battery 6/10

Nightcrawler 8/10

foods in the tone of 'go to the fuckin store'

apple cracker thangies

anyone keen on seeing a movie about a serial-killing EDM producer?

Finally got around watching Dune: enjoyable, but nothing mindblowing. Didn't age very well. 7/10

Silver Linings Playbook: Jennifer Lawrence/10 - immensely predictable from the first second in but enjoyable nonetheless

Finding Fela: 8/10 - besides the obsolete stuff on the broadway show about Fela Kuti, this is a really great documentary about his life, lots of great footage I haven't seen before. Recommended.

Gran Torino: really didn't want to watch this for years, turned out my instincts were wrong AGAIN 8/10

Inherent Vice

The movie that sounded so good on paper turned out to be kind of a wasted opportunity. It's like you know a much better movie could be made with the same ingredients. Nothing felt at stake and besides a couple of good scenes and bits of dialogue, it doesn't amount to much. I'm not sure how PTA let this one slip by.

Yeah I avoided that one for a long time too, thinking it was gonna be "righteous old white republican shows ornery urban youth what's up via the barrel of a gun". Was actually kind of the opposite of that, in a way. Great film.

watched Dead Man's Shoes for the 1st time earlier since it came out cant believe its 11 years ago........

just wish Mr Meadows would get over his This Is England period pieces & get back to this kinda work,,,,,,,

cwm have u seen tyranosaur by paddy considine? it's amazing

"Whoa! Check it out! RO-BIGH-DUHS!"

sigh.. "That's Ribena.."

thats the 1 with Olivia whatsherface & Peter Mullen in isnt it......google confirms......yes i have Hog, bleak & super intense with that doughy rat faced cunt as her abusive hubby. Hard to believe that was a directorial debut ffs.

Its like they took all the best elements of Ken Loach & Mike Leigh & boiled them down to their essential parts with added psychopaths & danger. You're always pulling for Olivia C in that filem and it pulls you all over the place with her harrowing treatment. Totally forgot about it too, cheers bwlad.

This Is England is great, though. and that was 2006, aside from the TV sequels he hasn't gone back to that stuff.

eh oop Usagi, things are about to get abrasive ;)

This Is England is quality, but i found with that cast that they would goof around n whatnot & Shane M was happy enough to "document" this as performance. Or maybe its just that Dead Man's Shoes was so full on that everything afterwards could seem "less"....

Have you seen A Room For Romeo Brass, 24 7, or Small Time? The former is very much like Dead Man's Shoes, w/Paddy C playing the weirdo oddball who latches onto the two kids as some bizarre older friend. Funny as fuck too in places....."oh you're gonna go darkside on me are ya.....go on then, go fookin darkside....."

Factoid - my mate went to school w/Vicky McClure

Global warming is a lie fabricated by the yoga-industrial complex.

So not worth going to see IYO?

It wouldn't hurt to wait and view it at home. I wouldn't discourage anyone from seeing it, but I wouldn't recommend it at all either.

Vicky McClure is a fox.

Automata. I liked this a lot. will be rewatching.

edit: what I've learnt about browsing Wikipedia pages and checking movies' Rotten Tomatoes ratings is: stop doing that. there are some craptacular movies out there with 90%+ RT ratings and criminally underrated good movies e.g. Automata with 33%. fuck scoring.

was automata really that good? i started watching it but turned it off after about 10 minutes because it just felt really cheap for some reason. like a highlander movie or something. might give it another go.

rumble in the bronx

flol, acting and plot on par with the room / 80s porn. cool fight scenes though.

I like where that little kid is pretending to play his sega game gear but you can see in the back of it there wasn't even a cartridge.

That's what I remember of the movie. And the cool fight scenes lol.

lol I remember watching Rumble In The Bronx. so silly. the woodchipper part was seriously disturbing for a kid though and felt completely out of tone with the goofiness of the rest of the movie.

Automata's not flawless, in fact the plot is a little bit muddled with some elements not really being resolved. some things were outright silly. the script could have used a bit more polishing/tightening up. but I liked it for what it was. it was interesting watching the robots 'personalities'.
