J3FF3R00
On 11/3/2019 at 12:02 PM, Dpek said: What about the visual effects of making them younger? Is it distracting? I've watched the trailer and while it looked 95% fine, those other 5% looked artificial as hell. Surprisingly, the vfx weren’t actually distracting. Very well done. The big issue was when the actors had to move quick or do something physical. In those cases, you’re watching the face of a 30/40-something on the body of a 70-something and it just feels off, because they’re more restricted in their movements and their posture. I also feel that slowed the pace down, especially in the first half of the movie. Even if it was just by a little bit. Younger people just move and react quicker and the pace of the editing matches their natural body movements. I kept thinking that there were moments that just needed to move slightly faster and it kinda took me out of it. Nebraska
didn't enjoy this. not sure what the director was going for - perhaps "everyone associates the balkans as a place where dodgy guys are involved in nefarious activities such as making snuff films and human trafficking" or maybe "the split of yogoslavia was basically the raping of a people similar to rape porn"? whatever the case, the film just wasn't well done- just constant jerking off (literarly the main guy is always wanking) or making a porn. then whatever happens at the end. then obvious finale scene that you can see a mile away. this was a billion times better- so good in fact they released an edited cut with all the naughty bits removed. it has a made-for-television feel (especially from the opening scene- a trailer for the advertising firm owned by the protagonists father) to the "romance" story betwix the chauffeur and his boss. it's very playful and theatrical- with lots of people coming in and out; and how hot was lesllie bovee? dr lopez
magic mike - holds up, excellent for what is basically a meditation on the costal south, with tampa being its molten, shitty core. running every scene not in the club through a disgusting mustard filter works in this respect. channing is excellent as a "smart" bro, mcconaughey and mangiello also great. the love interest... has fetal alcohol syndrome?? anyway she's weird and almost doesn't know how to speak let alone act. doesn't really matter however. i also forgot this movie starts with a topless, pre-face work olivia munn. no complaints there, good lord she was hot before she had to become a beard for aaron rogers Edited November 4, 2019 by dr lopez Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide dr lopez's signature Hide all signatures On 11/24/2015 at 12:29 PM, Salvatorin said: I feel there is a baobab tree growing out of my head, its leaves stretch up to the heavens Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/75962-films-recently-watched/page/622/#findComment-2750953 Share on other sites
Taupe Beats
A Page of Madness rules I went kinda nuts this weekend with the Criterion 50% off sale at Barnes and Noble. Upgraded a lot of my personal favorites. With that, gave a re-watch to Jeanne Dielman over the weekend. This may be the most technically perfect film I've ever seen. Between framing, pacing, brilliant use of ellipsis, Delphine Seyrig. Reveal hidden contents After seeing it the first time, I watched an interview with Akerman who explained that Dielman really starts to unravel because she has her first orgasm on the 2nd day. At the time this was quite a surprise to me. Upon 2nd viewing it made a bit more sense. After watching again last weekend, now it's painfully obvious and I was quite obtuse for not noticing. With as much feminist theory as a straight white male can muster, the film is an amazing vision of someone who's humanity has been totally robbed of them to the point where she no longer feels comfortable in her routine of robotic service to her son (and clients), and esp. not when alien and formative human emotions/experiences come into play (arguably a sexual awakening). I'll stop now but this is def. one of the greatest films I've ever seen, if not the greatest. Rubin Farr
Terminator Dark Fate - first, yes it's a big dumb action movie like the F&F franchise, but as a child of the 80s, still holds a nostalgic place in my heart. This is a sequel to T2, so the last 3 movies are best forgotten. Linda Hamilton is the reason to go see this, the FX are loud and visually overwhelming at times, but she holds it together. Maybe the best acting she's done, the pain and weight on her face comes across as sincere, as well as her reaction to several game changing revelations. Ahnold is Ahnold, old grey and still buff, but just as bad as ever at delivering dialogue, and some ludicrous character development on his part. The cultural symbolism was clever, but not shoved down your throat like Battlestar Galactica was. It was interesting to see, but flew way over the heads of the kids we took to see it. Gabriel Luna is pretty relentless, shame Ghost Rider got canceled before even filming. It looks to be a theatrical bomb, losing maybe hundreds of millions of $$$, so might be the last Terminator for a while, or ever. Maybe they'll try a TV series again, mebbe not. Lada Laika
Don’t be fooled by the “Hulu Original” tag, because this is actually pretty good (and apparently it was only bought by Hulu after production wrapped and it started getting buzz on the festival circuit). Follow-up to Under The Shadow by director Babak Anvari, very understated and unsettling psychological horror. Solid performances and some very memorable imagery sells some occasional weak script moments. Hulu in the US, Netflix most everywhere else IIRC. beerwolf
Waiting for a train, need to kill time. Watched a few movies lately because I’ve been jet setting around the world (or strapped into a seat, dribbling, drooling and snoring like a incapacitated goblin) So here goes! Rear Window (6/10) enjoyable to watch. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (5/10) hmmm no fucking story whatsoever, not sure what the actual point of this movie was? Weird. There were some cool parts in it but almost 3 hours is a fucking joke. Godzilla (the latest one) fell asleep through 90% of it. Which was probably a stroke of luck. Lost in Translation (8/10) second time I’ve seen it. Pretty great for all the reasons why people who love it, say they love it (I cant be arsed to) El Camino (8/10) actually might rewatch it again this weekend which isn’t something I usually do (rewatch films twice in a week) MadellisTheSixth 1 Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/75962-films-recently-watched/page/622/#findComment-2751683 Share on other sites
