LOL I've been on a Jackie Brown kick lately, killer 70s soundtrack.

i just watched (almost) all the jean rollin films on fast forward. basically: plodding artsy-eurotrash vampire films (about 70% of them), one teen(age) hitchhiker exploitation feature and some softcore horror stuff that can't decide whether it's horror or porn. actually, none of his films can decide whether they're horror or porn.

all the dames are luscious au-naturale european hotties with soft supple rear-ends and generous child bearing hips that can't act any more than the director can direct.

i seem to remember susan george being very attractive. i was wrong. rosie marcel however is, but that's today, not when this was made. fiddlesticks

Upstream Color - weird/10 - can't say I've seen another movie like it but for me it didn't cohere as much as Primer did. This was a much more ambitious film but in some ways a more subdued but equally science fiction concept.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

The Road Beyond The Pines - 9/10 - Absolutely brilliant. It's a fantastic triptych with great acting, directing and cinematography. Go and check it out if you're a fan of well constructed dramas. Gosling, Cooper and Mendes are brilliant throughout.

Looper - Bit weak imo, couldn't understand half of what the lead character was saying.

Oblivion - Kosinsk's great eye for scenery and 70's concept sci-fi design was in abundance and made the film. Tom Cruise was manageable although the film did lack a little charisma and suffered some horrendous overcooked Michael Bay esque romantic scenes. Whilst having nods and cliches to other classic sci-fi the film but within the constraints of a big blockbuster just had enough of its own merit to make it worth watching. Although lacking in certain areas Oblivion has the right ingredients for a decent sci-fi flick that shouldn't look dated in years to come (kinda like Minority report) even if it just misses 'classic' status I didn't feel short changed leaving the IMAX. 8/10

But the story was so average and you could see all the twists and turns coming from miles away.

Not wanting to spoil but I did twig some things out early on but there were a few things that took me by surprise too. The latter third did seem a bit rushed with not much about the new characters. Like I said worth a watch for the visual design.

where did you see it? is it in theaters?

yeah very limited showings right now, i saw it in Berkeley. It's only playing at 2 theaters within a 50 mile radius where I'm at.

Stanley Kubrick - A life in Pictures

Worth watching though I admit I skipped some bits when they were talking about some films I havent seen. It's a bit long too.

please don't pirate upstream color. unless it is never playing near you. at this level your current film pays for the next one.

who said they were pirating it?

Sorry.

I really disliked it, and turned it off halfway through, if that is any comfort.

I'm convinced it will never run at a cinema near my location.

Again, I am sorry for what I have done.

yeah. I must have pirated a film with a similar name, anyway, don't watch that one, whatever it is... To celebrate I won't post any more nonsense today, but I will be paying big daddy some moneys so I can edit endlessly instead of wasting your screen estate.

don't pirate that shit, just go see it. And if you get an M Night vibe 20 minutes in then walk out. This movie is a mashup between Eternal Sunshine, Lady in the Water, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Primer, no joke. I can't say that it works 100%, but it's definitely one of the strangest unsettling movies I've seen in years.
