Today: Felix Baumgartner 36km stratosphere jump

my girlfriend is arguing with me about how this is a waste of time

plz science people tell me why this is scientifically important

so far I have:

from the first jump we confirmed what happens to blood vessels when exposed to outer space without protection

-testing the reslience of helium balloons

-testing human endurance

-breaking the sound barrier without the use of an automobile

what else? there has to be innumerous things being tested here, controlling pressure, etc. etc.

The space suit is a newly designed one that will be used in future space missions... if this mission is successful that is.

The air is thinner where he is now. Maybe it was all part of the plan so he has time to equalise the pressure in the capsule.
