Drukqs' 11th Birthday today.

Recommended Posts

So Drukqs turns 11 today (wow time has flown by).

Despite having gotten a lot of hate in the press about being "more of the same" relative to RDJ Album, I have to sharply disagree. I see RDJA as him "perfecting the alphabet" necessary to eventually execute the much deeper, more complex and masterful Drukqs. Yeah there's some weird throw-aways, but the electronic stuff is so thematically-rich and passionately-executed and the prepared-piano pieces could actually give Satie a run for his money (which is saying a lot).

In comparison to modern music, other than the production NOT having been ruined by current trends in destructive loudness-limiting and compression, you could easily convince someone that Drukqs is a 2012 release. It was so far ahead of its time, and will continue to be as nothing else sounds like it. It is truly the apex of that genre, to my ears at least. Wild but controlled, experimental but structurally sound.

Anyways, my two cents - figured this wonderful album deserved a mini celebration. Happy Birthday, Drukqs!

" Last law bearing means that any reformer or Prophet will be a subordinate of the Holy Prophet (saw) and no new Messenger and Prophet with a new religion, book or decree will come after him. Everything from him will be under the banner of Islam only."

And so far, still looks to be the final "official" Aphex Twin release we'll ever see.

Well, that probably why richard hasn't released anything yet under the aphex twin moniker. difficult to give a follow up to such a brilliant release (or... it's difficult to put another record out which continues the saga since SAW I).

I always wonder how much effort went into that record... it's clearly the work of a genius in his more excellent shape, both musically and technically... funny how such albums always seem to happen when musicians are 28-30 years old.

For god's sake, drop the rabid revisionist mythologization and stick to the facts: Aphex Twin released an official EP in 2005.

On topic - Hooray for Drukqs, a fantastic album.

I gotta say I love all the drukqs tracks but not by listening to the album through but rather when he drops them in his DJ sets.

I find the percussion quite tinny and grating compared to analord/tuss tracks - even on the vinyl.

Having said that, I'm gonna give the cd a whirl in the car all this week with a few complete walkthroughs. Re-acquaint myself.

But until now "Go Plastic" from he same era has got a ton more listens overall.

Huzzah! Depressing!

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

two years ago I was only listening to druqks, no other music felt so sublime to my ear (and I was feeling in awe for the music and depressed for the inarrivable music making)

Yes...but that's just because they are complete morons!

It's like a former high school quarterback watching film reels of himself after he gets home from his mall security gig. As he watches the flickering echoes of Homecoming games past, he tells himself you were quite good before settling in with a beer and a cinnabon and some patriotically exploitative porn.

Edit: Drukqs is pretty good, though

Analord 10 does NOT count as an Aphex Twin release... if anything, it was a "guest appearance" by his alias on the Analord series, which has always been attributed to AFX, not Aphex Twin. Some might argue that Analord is an alias itself, but that's beside the point.

Interesting discussion.

Analord 10, in my opinion, is Aphex Twin material in name only.

It sounds like AFX material, and as such, does not constitute as a more recent Aphex Twin release, in my opinion, man.
