drukqs is like a beautiful but very long acid trip.. it's amazing and tiring at the same time and when you are done you feel like you've been ran over by a large vehicle

and the prepared-piano pieces could actually give Satie a run for his money (which is saying a lot).

WARPLP92 being £25.

Yeah, that's pretty cheap for a quadruple LP in a bigass carton box... Would probably be 50-60 GBP today.

The pound really lost it's worth in the past decade, that has to be taking into account as well. Still, 25 pounds... Well, I'm glad I got the box as a gift about 6 years ago :emotawesomepm9:

It remains my favorite album of all time, in any genre. It changed my DNA instantly when it came out (I was 12) and it still is amazing when I listen to it.

drukqs discussion threads summarized:

but yeah no i like this album but i've only heard it a handful of times because i got it around the tale end of when i was big into idm/warp type music back in college & by that point some of the novelty of the genre had worn off

will probably go back to it some time soonish & listen to it with fresh ears to judge it fairly

the overall control exhibited over the sonic mayhem is mindblowing.

I think this is a really good way to sum up the technical aspect of drukqs. how he is able to do 6-8 minute tracks that are constantly evolving & organic, that are entirely controlled and organized, with no repetition and everything sounding like it was intended... it's baffling. the most I have been able to figure out about that style is that he seems to use gating on everything and has the gate's patterns interlock when it gets hectic (for max loudness/clearness.) still though, that's just one tiny bit of it, and there is so much more going on, and so many subtle little touches...

plus, I mean, not only is Drukqs electronic music at it's best technically, the album is just pure art too. A truly great composer & artist at the top of his form... it's just a shame electronic music isn't taken more seriously, so he can get proper recognition for it.

This is why it's still the state of the art in electronic music as of today.

On an unrelated side, I just realized Penty Harmonium is the anagram of Pentium Harmony. Like, in the computer processor.

But that wasn't a harmony, it was a series of notes...

my one problem with druqks is that something about the mastering, or basically just the final sound 'image' bugs me. it seems somehow, 'flat' and without much depth. mainly i think it's the bass. the bass doesn't sound very thick or gooey or any of that stuff, just kind of thin. the drums in general seem very super thin, like they just don't have the sharp cutting effect of a good squarepusher track of similar style. the best way for me to try to describe what i'm saying is that, you hear the drums, but you don't feel them. at least, that's how i feel about it.

otherwise it's still one of my favorites and i think the crazy ass feedback shit at 4:40 in 54 cymru beats is just fucking mindblowing and probably the awesomest thing i've ever heard come out of my speakers. i wish that part just kept going and got crazier and crazier.

I agree that the sound is kinda flat, grey and slightly distorted. But it is very functional for the vast intensity and variety of the music.

Does anybody else think Richard is releasing his back catalog using Pseudonyms?

(In other words: did/does anyone really believe that Steinvord is/was an actual person?)

I try not to think about such things. Makes my brain hurt and makes me wanna take loads of drugs.

I do think "Ontrackv2" is TJ-ish enough to be TJ.

But if there's one thing Steinvord is not, it's an actual separate human being.

I think those of you who make music are best to explain such matters. I just listen to it, so its more difficult for me to tell. Surely those who make music must be able to see clues more clearly?

I keep out of such conversations about who is who and who isn't who. I enjoy reading these threads with people arguing all the time lol, its quite funny. I know Richard and me are very different people but I get his sense of humour.

It's a matter of programming habits...sorta like verbal ticks.

It's one thing to see familiar patterns in uptempo IDM...it's another matter to hear a giant string of familiar patterns of familiar chords/melodies/beats on familiar settings on familiar gear.

Jesus. Spring Break 2002. I was 17, laying on the floor, tripping on Ketamine with two people having sex next to me thinking "my god this album is the best thing I've ever heard" then I threw up.

I listened to it everyday after that for a long time.

lol

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.
