even visually this track is a joy

glad this thread was bumped because i listened to the entirety of it in full darkness last night

yeah absolutely one of my biggest favorites of theirs for sure, every track just h i t s 

Pro Radii is so hypnotic

Untilted brings the funk in a way no ae release has before or since imo. just slamming delicious drum pattern after delicious drum pattern direct into your earholes. no apparent improvisation or procedural fuckery

the production is also, uniquely among autechre's confield-to-current period, highly dynamic making it very conducive to cranking up real loud. this is mostly owing to the pads being mixed real low as a rule and the dry and clear percussion. incomprehensibly snappy. the waves travel through the air with all the grace and majesty of...some kind of bird. a really majestic bird

yeah this,  I always have feel the same.    you can listen to it  loud , and it's not getting tiring to the ears after a couple of tracks.

It's very electric, crunchy, digital and airy, which I like, tickles my brain. And the beats are kicking ass all over the place.

This was the first album when I experienced the 'Autechre magic eye' effect as in I'd listened to it a quite a few times and wasn't into it, gave it a rest for a year, played it and everything suddenly came into focus and I could hear something entirely different and totally brilliant. Yep good day for music that.

The only album that I dislike of theirs that hasn't had the magic eye effect on me is Draft. Though it's been donkeys years since I played that. Maybe worth another try.

Untilted was one of the few times I was too skeptical for my own good, when it first leaked I thought it was a fake.

Bearing in mind there had already been a couple of fake leaks (authored by watmm's very own awepittance & gl0tch) so I was already primed for mischief.

As LCC started I thought no way they would make something this straight. It was too fast, too dry, just a percussion pattern, no swing, not enough mad shit going on in the background I thought, even the pads are mixed too quiet. It didn't last long tho, probably half way thru Ipacial Section the penny dropped and I realised it was the real deal. It went on to become one of my fave Ae records. Those opening few moments are certainly a departure from the swampy, funky Draft 7.30.

in 2006 i bought this and incunabula on cd at the same time from a borders and that was my first exposure to autechre. incunabula was like "holy shit this rules" and untilted was "wtf even is this"

Lol funny to hear this was going on as far back as that. I only fell prey to the oversteps fakes, a few years later (altered carbon famously being the most insidious of them all)

I had no issues with untilted when it came out. I was 19 and enjoying life. And was back in an electronic/idm phase after a year or so of diversion into indie/post rock. So it was the right timing for it. Enjoyed the album quite a bit on acid (ipacial section = hilarious, pro radii = creepy, augmatic disport = fuuuuucked)

i think there's good reasons for having physical media existing in the world.  even if it's just the eventual dusty used record store in some town's future. the way shit is going, at some point physical media may be the only way.. that and people's personal home digital libraries.. that they burn to CDr for safe keeping.

I remember a fake leak of Aphex's supposed Terminator 3 soundtrack, 2002 something I think. And it was just some shitty gabber.

Then there were the fake Orb remixes of Pink Floyd tracks and I think those date back to sometime around '93-'95, but they were still circulating in the 2000s.

Untilted is never too loud. It holds tight, no matter how loud you push it.   

Still one of my top favorite albums, ever. 20 years old, lol. Sure doesn’t feel like it’s been 20 years.
