just wanted to chime in here, i think it was this thread where speculation was put forth about the 'chre playing moogfest (now "mountain oasis electronic music summit"). well not only are the sean bros not playing this thing but daniel johnston and neutral milk hotel are playing. at an electronic music fest. what. the. fuck.

I was a little soured when I didn't see Autechre on the Mountain Oasis lineup, but then it would have been a miracle for them to play at a fest like this. Last year was more focused, for example they got Squarepusher and Carl Craig which were both loads of fun, but they suffered financially because this general brand of electronic music just isn't very popular in the southeast US. I doubt they will try for something like that again. What is popular though, is indie faux-folk which is probably be why acts like Neutral Milk Hotel, etc. frequently get booked at this event.

I'm sure they tried for Ae. I don't think they expected a poor turnout because they played in Asheville on their 2005 US tour, so Sean-n-Rob must have something else planned elsewhere in October :wink: (and hopefully in the US sometime too!)

it is because you can tweak only so many knobs. I think electronic music is pretty much used up. Guitars on the other hand, lots of undiscovered territory there.

ru sirius?

@phling

Mangos & Sauerkrauts! Playing on a guitar is a totally different approach from electronic music in live (and what kind of em we're talking about here? AE?). Musician vs conductor approach, right?

Still, Jake E. Lee Shreds can play on 74 guitars and even that wouldn't came close to the Ae's 2010 tour to me.

Second, Jake E. Lee invested his whole life to that mastery so we too can try investing just half of that quality time to something like max/msp, supercollider and some good midi controllers and i'm sure we'll see better results.

Third, what is a music instrument anyway and what's an em instrument? What's live performance? Not easy to tell IMO. But in one thing i'm sure > the expectations are wrong...as always! Stockhausen, remember him? Remember his first em performances with an orchestra and everything that happened since? Like it never happened i guess...even to someone like you who knows things, if you're really Sirius and not just being sarcastic with the general public thinking. :p

lol @ taking serious the idea that someone in the Ae subforum actually believes we have more to discover from guitars than we do from the whole of electronic music

If i can take it in my defense...i was focusing of live performances and second, my audio wasn't working so i couldn't watch the youtube videos at first. Shit i'm outa hier fo good!

Sooo, wtf are they going to tour this summer or not?

I doubt there will be one this summer, which is unfortunate for us, but I'm sure the lads have got stuff to be doing at the moment

maybe this isn't the best place for this, but i listened to a bunch of boc live sets and they were all very disappointing. the songs were mostly identical to the released versions, and the transitions were pretty weak. maybe i just picked some underwhelming sets?

i still can't find any electronic act that comes close to ae live improv/creativity/sick beats
