is it still bad form to wonder aloud what the deal with boc is?

Recommended Posts

But Aphex remains in the public eye with DJ sets all over the place as well as his Barbican centre thing earlier this year. Also, Warp continue to repress his albums on vinyl.

If BOC offered a simple gesture such as an end of year chart for Bleep or wished their fans a merry Christmas, the speculation over their continued existence would be set to rest.

Yeah it's the complete lack of presence even though they clearly know how people feel. AFX does DJ sets, occasionally says things, etc. And plus, there's a decent chance he's Steinvord, although that's plenty ridiculous too if he's trying to keep that secret.

edit:

Maybe BoC actually has no clue somehow and they think everyone's forgotten about them and they live in a forrest somewhere without internet. Also maybe some random guy runs the BoC page and is trolling everyone?

I wouldn't say he 'remains in the public eye', but yes, compared to BoC, he's virtually on the nightly news! I think BoC are enjoying being Mike and Marcus, and aren't terribly worried about Boards' public face (if they ever were). Just they way they roll.

I guarantee you 100% Aphex is NOT Steinvord. That's all I'll say on the matter.

That just makes him even more annoying to me.

Him still being active.. that means his probably still into making music in some form. But he probably just don't want to release it.

That, or he's burnt out, and doesn't have anything he thinks is worthy to release? Or, he's perfectly happy making music for himself, and since he's financially doing well with DJ stuff and the occasional 'experiment', there's no reason for him to release anything?

A terribly selfish way to behave, but it's his music. Just can't fathom why he wouldn't want to share it with the world.

I agree.

If Marcus and Mike are simply done making music.. fair enough. It's sad, but nobody can force them.

But at least they are not teasing, by doing some DJ sets with the occasionally unheard track, like RDJ.

Yeah, Aphex is a bit annoying, but it's the whole hinting thing that makes BoC annoying. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually intended something to be released earlier but things just didn't work out, or if they had some sort of hard drive crash (although I'd think guys like BoC should know better than to fall victim to that). I do believe that they are working on stuff, though. It's gonna be hella disappointing when it gets here.

Steinvord is NOT Aphex - similar to How Brad Strider was not Manuel Sepulveda... :emotawesomepm9:

It's funny how everyone bemoans the lack of BoC output and how it's been so long, but everyone seems to forget that the last Aphex Twin release, DrukQs, came out 11 years ago, and there hasn't been an Aphex Twin release since.

Sure, there's been Analord (2005), and The Tuss (2007), but that's still 7 and 5 years ago respectively (and under a different alias), on par with Boards last release, Trans Canada Highway (2007). At least Boards last LP was 2004, so it's been 8 years now.

They'll release it when they want to release it.

Dude, it's not a contest. 11 years is a long time. 8 years is also a long time. Especially when those who speak for them maintained a new album was in the pipeline.

this.

they've left it too long. now they'll have to wait until next decade and until everybody, including LOL Alzado, is way passed caring and has completely forgotten who they are, and then suddenly out-of-the-blue suprise everybody. then there will be no expectation. innit.

Honestly while I would probably listen to it soon after it emerged, a new BoC album wouldn't be high on my anticipation radar. They've released three perfectly good albums that probably helped inspire a lot of the cool stuff going on in indie electronic these days (deconstructing old media, new agey psychedelia, tapey distortion, downtempo grooves, etc.), & anything further would probably feel a bit more of the same because they've never struck me as a duo who'd radically change their sound (nothing wrong with that, they've got a good thing going).

funnily enough, I recently heard somebody saying that people were doing like all of these things before BoC came along..??

hahaha, I mean, I know..! idiots, right?

BoC invented all of these things. we knows this.

I'm sure plenty of experiment artists did most, if not all of those things before Boards of Canada released anything. I can't think of any that put those elements together in a way like BoC though.

the new one will feature both of them singing for the very first time, hope you all like it. gotta break new ground, feck the guitars.

2 (good) albums, 2 (good) EPs, and a bunch of old tunes.

Ceephax, Team Doyobi, even Black Dog, there's so many other artists and groups much more deserving of a subforum here (because they actually release stuff and appear to be quite hard working, passionate and devoted people), imho.

get a move on, BoC. or at least announce your retirement officially, or summink.

You guys are just unable to accept that there will probably never be another album. Like every group, people move on to other things. Every group has their last record. Think about the place you were 7 years ago, well now apply this to another human being doing music and it's the same. They got jobs elsewhere probably too! You got to pay the bills ya know...

this guy

i never claimed they invented it, just that they're probably (partially) responsible for the current popularity of those things being used in a specific combination

Pretty sure BoC and Aphex are still under contract. They could just take literally forever like Portishead. It turned out pretty well for them in my opinion but hey we'll see.

Kind of cool to think of a band that is so fucking dope that they release albums in glacial time. there's nothing more boc than the slow passage of time over eons.

That's pretty much what Seefeel did. They took 15 years to release their next album after CH-VOX.
