That's pretty much what Seefeel did. They took 15 years to release their next album after CH-VOX.

Well Seefeel broke up in the 90s, then there were the Scala (with Seefeel members) records on Touch, then Seefeel reformed later with 2 new members on Warp while Boards of Canada are almost silent for years. Very different with AFX : since Drukqs, Richard James put out the Smojphace ep, Analord 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, the split ep with LFO, 2 Tuss records & he's DJing.

& i'm not even comparing with bands like Autechre or Emeralds (check out their outputs on Discogs).

Pretty weird what is happening to Boards of Canada...

k h o v is right about this: there's a relevant disanalogy between BoC and Seefeel here. The general understanding was the Seefeel was broken up. That was information that the fans had at the time. Their recent album was announced because two of the original members decided to use the name for their new project with two other people. That's hardly comparable to some trolls running a facebook page "liking" questions that fans post on the band's page, or a representative of the band frequently visiting an unaffiliated, unofficial message board (two of them, now that I think about it), reassuring everyone that the album will be out by the end of the year (two years ago). It's not like Seefeel had a website where five years into their silence, they post a black box, which the fans (justifiably, given past practices) interpreted as an upcoming release, but then the band said virtually nothing about it for an indefinite period of time.

maybe they were never really that talented in the first place? I mean, maybe they're just a bit of a 'one trick pony', ?

maybe that really is it now and there'll be no more because they just don't have anything else to give and they're done... maybe.

making quirky nostalgic dark trip hop inspired music doesn't seem like it would shape up to be a majorly fulfilling main focus in life. i am sure these guys operate a few taco del mar franchises or some other small business that affords them the luxery of extended travels to thailand where they can exercise their talents for bribing public officials and manipulating street hookers into complicated games of cat and mouse.

But yea If I could make quirky nostalgic dark trip-hop for a living, and not have to work my shitty ass job? Yea, I'd do that in a second. I think anyone would. The brothers have realized though that trying to support families and live off a music career is unstable. If you want to support a family- having to go out on tour and sell yourself to fans to bring home cheese is not something everyone could do and ultimately would destroy what you have built.

they've left it too long. now they'll have to wait until next decade and until everybody, including LOL Alzado, is way passed caring and has completely forgotten who they are, and then suddenly out-of-the-blue suprise everybody. then there will be no expectation. innit.

 

Why do they have to follow your forced timeline of things and why do you think "everyone" will forget who they are? Their music, like all good music I enjoy, is timeless to me. I don't have any particular sense of the time it was released in, it doesn't matter. If BOC puts out an album in 2016, great, I will check it out, and I will care, because their earlier albums are special to me.

 

I just don't get this rushed feeling, as if every year something isn't released, there is a feeling lost or something fading. That kind of pressure sucks. At minimum it shouldn't affect the 'care' level or anticipation when new music comes out.

I don't see why we can't just have a simple official update, regardless of the news. I mean, they're not obligated to give us an update, but it would be courteous considering how many people have supported their music over the years. Same thing applies to RDJ. If they're done releasing new music, why can't they just say it?

so if I understand you correctly, then the previous albums represent a single day with a rest period (night), which means we have approximately 49,275 BoC albums to look forward to!! (given that the Bros Sandison can conservatively expect to have at least 45 yrs of productive work left x 365 days per year x 3 albums per "day").

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I mean, I bet there will eventually be a new album. Even people/bands that officially go on hiatus usually do something eventually. People who love making music that much generally don't stop.

I still wonder. I just don't bother coming on here to wonder out loud, as it's a total waste of fucking time.
