Having a first listen now. It's a nice track, which I rather like.....but not blown away.

It seems to flounder but flounder rather elegantly. I think it might sound better as an album track not a single.

Me too. I've already warmed up to the new tune.

I don't care much for the new single, isn't one of his stronger ballads. But Heathen and Reality both had several standout songs, and I'm excited to hear an album of new Bowie. He's one of the few music artists who writes about an even ratio of songs I like to songs I dislike. There are a lot of artists who consistently write songs I like, and others who consistently never do, but Bowie's the best and worst of both worlds for me. In the one instance in semi-recent memory that he did an entire album of songs I loved (Earthling) he countered it with an entire album of songs I never want to hear again (Hours...). It really is quite remarkable.

Also, new album cover is hilarious.

Also 2, as a performer he was still killing it at 50. Just incredible stage charisma... well, obviously.

Me too. And again, while I think the cover of the new album is hideous (even a grey square like the one used for the Where Are We Now? art might have improved it), pretension aside it is quite clever and very funny, not to mention controversial. Which is presumably the point.

I too loved Heathen, am a huge fan of 1. Outside, and on the strength of this new single with its accompanying video weirdness, an going to love The Next Day. :)

Link is down... hers a new one...

Nice music. Too many names of German locations in the lyrics, imo.

That video is like something he would have made in 81/82.

I wonder if that is in keeping with the statement he's making with the cover?

And apparently that's a new typeface called "Doctrine"? Another pretentious conceit - creating a new typeface that looks almost exactly like an existing one.

It's subtle, but I can't really think of anything too similar at the moment. I like it! The design itself, I'm not so sure.

I was pleasantly surprised with this album. Really does have the vibe of his classic 70's, 80's and 90's stuff. I think a big part of it is how the snare drum is mixed really low and dry and papery (if that makes sense).

But the media loves it which clearly means Im wrong

yes they are getting their knickers in a real twist over Bowie atm

I have, he sounded like he'd given up to me. Sometimes I think artists get to such a high status that no one criticises them.

I should probably have been more specific. What's the deal with the white square?

well it's designer says "the obscuring of the photograph connotes "forgetting or obliterating the past".

well who'd have thought eh... it's just wank. Barnbrook is a highly regarded figure but this... nah mate get back

to the drawing board. The wankalogy particularly from those that can afford to after they've 'made it' is rampant. Sagmeister often wanks it too. Laziness. Personally I think only Peter Saville has that special knack for doing little to fuck all but getting it spot on.

does he really say that? b/c every time i see the cover i immediately think of "heroes." would wager it's quite the opposite of "forgetting or obliterating" innit?

i'd agree.
