Bell Orchestre covers Aphex Twin

Recommended Posts

Guest Moebius

I went to a Bell Orchestre concert last night - great show, really good instrumental stuff - and for the final number (before the encore), they announced they were going to play an Aphex Twin track. I thought I misheard them at first, (I was also too chicken to shout "C'mon you cunts, let's have some Aphex acid!") but they did in fact go ahead and play a rousing rendition of...

Bucephalus Bouncing Ball!

That's not I expected to hear at all... but it sounded great, with the full size standup bass playing the 'bounces'. Maybe they just got confused; I mean, Flim is the track on that album that everyone covers.

Oh my god... that must have been insane I mean the timing on that is hard enough. Do they have this officialy recorded anywhere or is it a mess about track?

I'll post the link as soon as the show is up. Hopefully tomorrow, but maybe not. So busy lately. Glad you guys liked the song/recording. I was amazed at how good the recording came out. And the song kicked major ass. I was in awe watching them play it. I hadn't heard any of Aphex Twin before, so I'm probably going to check it out now. I found this board by searching for the name of the song so its lucky people had been talking about it here!

Great recording, thanks for taking the time to share it here. Good thing I started this post :)

How was the turnout at the show you went to? For some reason there was an appalling low turn out for the one in Cleveland, only about 30 people. Exact same venue where Arcade Fire had it packed.

My guess is there were between 100 and 250 people (not the greatest range because I was in the very front row and didn't look behind me much). The place they played holds 1000+ and has three sections (floor, second balcony and third balcony). The second/third were closed. The floor has three sections, left, right and center. The center had a fair amount of people, but a decent amount of open seats. The left and right sections had very few people in them. There were more people than I expected, but I don't know why they played in such a big venue. Its a really nice theater (about 100 years old) and the sound was great, but the place was so huge.
