I really like what AE do with the vocal sample in this track. There are endless ways to achieve these effects with hardware and software these days.

I'm curious to hear a discussion:

How would YOU do it?

and

How do you think they did it in deco Loc?

. thank you for your times

to me it just sounds like an old school chorus patch rompler sound being side chained by the drum beat and retriggered mpc style. I probably wouldn't do it since it sounds like a weak flying lotus track

lols Most IDM Burn 2013

yeah, i can't stand flying lotus. but i enjoy this track

FWIW, most flying lotus shit i've heard sounds cluttered as fuck.. with a lot of aimlessness on his later albums. deco Loc sounds spare in comparison, and focused. sound economy.

p.s. i hear more weight in the kick and that "snare" than any of the FL bullshit. maybe it's mastering, or maybe i have no idea... deco Loc pushes air, and it's dry as shit.

I thought similar... What people don't well understand is: the song's sheer brilliance as an exercise in percussion with a very piquant quality of timelessness *FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF*

I presume you just LOOOVE the genre/style-term bleep -- ... and that you keep it close and warm and use it all the time. MEA CULPA, biznich! Step Back!! I'M DONE. :diablo:

Flying lotus's aesthetic value in terms of experimental electronic sound isn't too hot... They;re more about the mindset... To me, at least. As to how anyone could hate on AE;s own, measured and metered, "sound economy" , as you so aptly put, is beyond me. You're right on!

Wrong.

Sounds simple but it's pretty complex...more than it seems.

What i love about Ae and what sets them apart from everybody else today in EM is that no matter how complex a track can sound (and we all know how they can) the mind set behind it is that complex times 1000.

If I was trying to replicate the track/vocals, i'd start by tying the vocal samples in with the percussion by some means, probably a slow advancing retrigger with a return to sample beginning possibility. the delay on the samples seems to change as well, so you'd need to set up a randomizer or some sort of pattern for how often it will change, with a high likelihood of it remaining the same (it most often is if i'm not mistaken).

I'm sure they've got some midi trick tying a sampler or simple delay in with the drum triggers. probably nothing too crazy, honestly (for them at least).

It's not their strongest track, and it doesn't always do much for me, but I've enjoyed it thoroughly on a few occasions.

Managed to confirm one of the sources at least. Just a quick mashup/rundown:

1 vocal sample

2 vocal sample chopped up

3 deco loc on its own

4 deco loc + vocal sample on top

Lol, that's like when BoC said they recreated that Hair track for the album version of Aquarius instead of using a sample, times 1000000. I'm pretty sure Autechre could make the 9 o clock news jingle sound like Dave Gahan singing Eurovision songs if they wanted to. S-s-s-top, stop, stop your sericulture.

Awesome find, psn!

And there was me thinking I was clever cos I sample-spotted a Metal Gear Solid sample in a Burial track that one time... next level sample spidey senses right here, bravo psn!

I repost my question about vocal samples from deco Loc (soz) and opinions about bocs harvest

i like TH and i'm waiting to see who figures out the samples

Well, psn already suggested Personal Jesus and made some "proof" mix for it.

yeah but he's wrong

Would they admit it if it was correct, or would that be a potential legal issue? They ignored my suggestion twice, while they were quick to dismiss a couple of other suggestions. Speculations...

Anyway, I'm pretty dead certain that's David Gahan in there.

yeah, good question. I suppose the new 0pn album would be a legal disaster for Warp if anybody involved confirmed the sources of samples in it too
