Just watched Man Bites Dog. good film. Disturbing. The one film that gets me every time is The Shining. That has to be the scariest, most psychologically intense movie i have seen. Every time i watch it it will stick with me for days. Oldboy also gets me. perhaps it's the emotional attachment that makes things scary.

oh and Come and See. again with the emotional shit but that movie had me fucked up and terrified in an existential sense.

I saw The Shining expecting an step-by-step adaptation of the book, and thus I was dissapointed by it. I should watch it again and enjoy for what it is

I watched it as a stand-alone movie. I hadn't read the book. But this is an argument i've heard quite often. For me the movie and the novel are two seperate entities. I've read the book now but i still find this movie incredible and quite disturbing.

this scene always freaks me out. but then the reveal at the end is really, really goofy. still, a masterpiece of tension.

youtube doesn't seem to have the full scene.

fucking love this

the shining is a great film, but it doesn't scare me at all. just a great film. come and see had a couple moments of real horror. the part where the camera passes by a pile of dead bodies as the boy and girl are walking in the village was devastating.

inside is just cringe inducing, but i don't find it scary. i've seen every film mentioned in this thread. the only films from childhood that freaked me out were alien and henry kane from poltergeist 2. neither affects me now.

Begotten is indeed an awesome "art" movie, but it never really "disturbed" me....but I totally get that the aesthetic is disturbing in nature....it is awesome.....I think the most disturbing parts of that movie were the repetitive noises...the dripping water/blood? in the god-death scene was unnerving.

Salems Lot. Especially the bit where the recent dead kid/vampire scratches at the window. "Mark, Mark, open the window Mark."

Gives me the shits just writing about it !

I watched it once on acid ! 100 x more terrifying :emotawesomepm9:

Lake Mungo.

Funny Games.

err .REC is quite a jumpy film, but still fairly scary

also Irreversible i found more scary than most horrors, cos of the nauseating camerawork and nightmarish soundtrack for the first half hour or so. watch in the dark with headphones for full effect.

Dear Zachary... this is a documentary, but the story being told is straight up horrific. don't watch if you've got a lot on your mind already.
