Have warmed to the album a little bit more in the past few weeks. Still quite let down by it though sadly. Do absolutely love "1 1 is" and "Spl9" though. "Bladelores" and "Irlite" would be faves too but they're too patchy to go mad over. Fond of a few other tracks but find them hard to go nuts for overall. Listening to "Flep" right now. Jesus, it really pains me to say it, but it's up there with the dullest autechre tracks going. Fahk

Which do you consider to be the dullest autechre tracks?

I have no idea what the hell is going on in this thread...

Clearly we aren't listening to the same Flep. It's not the high point of the album or anything, but hot damn is it good

i haven't listened on headphones and i don't think i will,

this is a mistake. of course it sounds nice shaking the house, but there are things i noticed or heard much clearer through headphones. most notably all the ways they use reverb, either having it act as its own pad or the manipulation of lengthy, quaristice-type bits. these parts really came into their own on my headphones, probably because my headphones emphasize the mids.

why would you only want to listen to this on one system?

I agree. On headphones you start to notice other layers, or layers that you start to pay more attention to because of the sound. But shaking the house is also a must.

ok i'm gonna have to check this out when i get some good headphones, right now i'm just hooked on blasting it through the speakers of my panzerdivision soundsystem :diablo:

I wish to live in a house with no neighbours attached.

Likewise, and living in NYC I have no car to blast this in either. If I want to listen to my music loud, it's had to be on headphones for over 5 years now.

Today I had the chance to play it quite loud in a car.

I felt that when listening to oversteps, you could hear that the 'songs' could be easily played on another instrument (keyboard/piano) and would be recognisable as that piece of music. With Exai, the actual production properties seemed to have a higher defining value for the tracks than the musical progressions within

nice post

Dunno, just find "Flep" a bit grating and long-drawn out, especially after "Vekos". There's a nice variety of sounds and vibes for the first 5 tracks, but having two hard, jackhammer workouts like that back-to-back made the buzz wear thin for me. I think it's mainly a production thing though - in comparison to Untitled-era tracks like "Augmatic Disport" they sound quite muddy to me. In the same way, "Fleure" just screeches a bit too much and makes me jones for "Acroyear2".

always skip t ess xi and usually skip flep.

however tuinorizn is fun when i'm not feeling sensitive to high pitch sounds.

1 1 is seems a little gimmicky to me now, but still a pretty amazing track conceptually. cloudline still unlistenable.

theres my updates guys stay tuned

I have to admit that this album has sort of slipped off my musical listening radar as well. Ultimately i don't think it has as much staying and 'grower' power as Untilted or Quaristice. I'd put it squarely on par with Oversteps. Not enough hidden or 'puzzle' elements that other AE albums had for it to have the same long term attachment

i completely disagree with people suggesting there isn't enough "hidden" stuff on this record. the tracks have plenty of subtle elements that reveal themselves over repeat listens and the expert production on this record creates such mind-fucking instances of "wtf is this awesome shit right here?!" i can't imagine people not hearing this. but even if one could make the argument that there aren't enough secret codes or something, i think the compositions themselves are incredibly elegant and refined and the 'chre really seem on top of their game here amd it's truly inspiring shit.

if y'all want secret puzzles and shit go play myst.

I still think this is a great album; there is no "exai" deflation for me, whatsoever. I gave it a break for a couple weeks and returned to listening to the vinyl while reading a novel, and that was just pure bliss.
