It's hard to believe that a label would conduct a major PR campaign without direct participation from the band. This whole thing had a hugeimpact on the band's brand. They wouldn't say "Yeah Warp, do whatever." That's not how PR works.

That is how PR works in my experience? At least in the games industry, if you work for a big publisher, you hand over some art assets to their crack marketing department who goes on to create sexist ads and horrible boxart for bro appeal.

I'm guessing they gave some high level direction but I feel like the whole puzzle wasn't as aesthetically perfect as BoC usually is.

That is how PR works in my experience? At least in the games industry, if you work for a big publisher, you hand over some art assets to their crack marketing department who goes on to create sexist ads and horrible boxart for bro appeal.

Interesting. My partner and I produce some pretty large events and we typically steer the ship in terms of PR. Our PR person helps us strategize, handles press releases, ordering posters, design etc. - but it's all with our input and approval at every stage.

The average gaming publisher is a number of magnitudes bigger than WARP, right? I find it hard to make such a comparison (although interesting). At such a small scale as WARP is working on (wrt the gaming industry), things just go different. Kinda like companies work differently. The bigger the company, the more specialised/boxed the various units within the organisation.
