It might be more of a joy to watch if its dubbed slovenian, though. If only to watch all the 11 years olds in the theaters go "WTF!?".

From what I've heard/read around the internet, this movie is way too entertaining for me. If all these damn movie maker people think they can just make movies with giant cool looking robots smashing things, without any social commentary or people staring into the horizon for minutes in a row, they can FORGET IT! I'm not going to pay for a movie ticket for crap like this, that doesn't even make me question my own existence. What a waste. Give me another one of those movies with old people losing their memory or something.

Slovenian dubbing in recent years has been really bad as far as I heard it (not much though). I'd watch a russian version of this

www.petergaber.com is where I keep my paintings. I used to have a kinky tumblr, but it exploded.

lol

I wish Idris had taken the production of this movie as an opportunity to teach Charlie Hunnam how to do an actual American accent.

Yeah it's also big summer blockbuster with giant robots, but the comparisons to Transformers aren't exactly fair, since Bay's between-shit-blowing-up dialogue tends to be so obnoxiously juvenile it's insulting to anyone older than 12. While Del Toro seems just as interested as Bay in delivering popcorn fun and giant setpiece action, I'm sure he's going to approach it with a little more taste & finesse, even if it's the opposite end of the spectrum from a high brow art film.

dunno, del toro explicitly says he's making the movie for the 11 year old state of mind.

ZOMG! Lazerz pew pew pew!!!!11!!1!!!!1!oneone!shift+one!~!!!

I'll go and watch this movie if they CGI a beard on Charlie Day. He's just not hot without it.

to be fair by the third installment of Transformers they knew any dialogue (i.e. the boring bit's in between the awesome state of the art actions sequences) was going to be a joke either way so I guess they thought why not take just the piss take it for what it is and try and make it funny but just like Tron Legacy I'm not going to all the way to the nearest IMAX for dialogue this summer.

I got offered free tickets to the European premier that a mate won last Thurs but couldn't make it.

Looks mental and I'm not the biggest cinema goer.

My only negative vibe is that there might be this Independance Day theme of America saving the world. You know, all that chest thumping, flag waving bullshit. None of that going on and we could be onto a winner.

this scene is 10x better than anything I have seen from pacific rim so far.

rocket elbow vs deep wang

Whenever anyone says "it will be unlike anything you have ever seen before" I think of the director interview in the Alien vs. Predator featurette.

But actually looks quite cool, and I can see Del Torro's style in there. And the best bit about the robot / fighting scenes is that you can actually tell what is going on, even in a low-res youtube clip. Could be win.

You’re about to get into a nearly 5000 word one sided discussion about PACIFIC RIM. I’m giving you the short, right up top. JUST GO. You don’t need to read this. You must pay witness to this movie. If you’re on a site like this it is because you probably love the great visual effects movies of all time. This is one of those. In addition, it has a multitude of characters that you and your family and friends will have favorites among. A whole generation will dream of giant robots as well as X-Wings and Enterprises. It’s got characters out of a Howard Hawks war adventure movie. Engineers, scientists, strong leaders and a group of Jaeger pilots that I fell madly in love with. There’s characters peppered into the film that you want whole movies dedicated to. Mechs and Kaiju… doing things – just amazing man. ILM OMG. Prepare to be Awed. This is Guillermo Del Toro knocking at the doors of legend and he struts his way in with a movie that turned me into a little kid in the best way possible. I can’t wait to go to sleep and dream now. Now… Get ready for me to lose my geek mind. The deeper you go, the more heavy the spoilers. But friends – Just GO – come back and celebrate with me. This is the best.

Saw it. It's great for what it is. First big effects movie I've seen in years that didn't leave me vaguely disappointed. Accept that the initial conceit is that giant robots are fighting giant monsters and everything is internally consistent. Great world building. Made me think there are 100+ great stories behind every scene. Good pacing, great action, actually felt important. Finally, a big action/disaster/giant robot movie that isn't a steaming pile of shit.

Still though, haters are gonna hate on it.
